I-95 Southbound

 

Exit 136 (Centreport Parkway) to Exit 133 (Route 17)

Monday – Thursday, 9 p.m. – 10 a.m. and Thursday – Friday, 9 p.m. – 6 a.m. and Friday – Saturday, 10 p.m. – 7 a.m. Single lane closure on I-95 southbound between the two interchanges for various construction activities for the Improve 95 program.

 

Exit 130 (Route 3)

Wednesday – Thursday, 9 p.m. – 5 a.m. Be alert to a mobile operation on I-95 southbound near the Exit 130 interchange, entrance and exit ramps from Route 3. Crews will be restriping pavement markings on the travel lanes and ramps.

 

South of Exit 126/Massaponax

Thursday, 9 a.m. – Noon. Single southbound lane closure for guardrail repair between mile marker 123-122, which is south of Exit 126.

 

Exit 118 (Route 606/Thornburg)

Rappahannock River Bridge

Exit 140 (Route 630/Courthouse Road) Entrance & Exit Ramps

Route 3 (Kings Highway)

Monday – Thursday, 7 p.m. – 6 a.m. Mobile operation with alternating single lane closures on Route 3 eastbound and westbound between the King George County line (Muddy Creek Bridge) and Cleek Road for spot pavement repair ahead of upcoming resurfacing work.

 

Route 17 Northbound

Monday – Thursday, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Single northbound lane closure between Sanford Drive and Ethyl Lane for bridge work.

 

Route 610 (Garrisonville Road)

City of Fredericksburg

 

Fall Hill Avenue at Route 1

Starting Sunday, May 2, the City of Fredericksburg Public Works Department will be modifying turn lane markings to reduce congestion at the Fall Hill Avenue and Route 1 intersection. Currently, the traffic movements are left and straight from the left lane and right only from the right lane. The new configuration will be left turn only from the left lane, with straight and right turns from the right lane. Message boards will be posted to alert drivers to the new road markings.

 

Spotsylvania County

 

Route 3

Sunday – Thursday, 9 p.m. – 5 a.m. Mobile operation on Route 3 eastbound and westbound between Gordon Road and Bragg Road to restripe pavement markings.

 

Route 208 Eastbound

Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 7 p.m. Single lane closure with one-way, alternating traffic near Route 606 for guardrail installation.

 

Route 601 (Lawyers Road)

Monday – Thursday, 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. Mobile single lane closures between Bell Drive and the entrance to Lake Anna State Park for road resurfacing improvements.

 

Route 610 (Elys Ford Road)

Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. Single lane closures with one-way, alternating traffic. A flagging crew will direct drivers near the mobile work zone to widen the shoulder.

Robert O. Norris Bridge

Routine bridge maintenance activities are scheduled on the Robert O. Norris Bridge, which connects Lancaster and Middlesex counties over the Rappahannock River. Drivers may experience brief delays.

 

Monday – Wednesday, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Alternating single lane closure. One-way traffic on the bridge will be maintained using an automated flagging assistance device.

 

Thursday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Mobile lane closures on the bridge. Expect brief delays at various locations on the bridge. Expect brief traffic stops in the work zone.

 

Lancaster County

 

Road Resurfacing

Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Mobile single lane closures for road resurfacing, and the application of surface treatment, on the following routes:

Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. Single lane closure near Maon Road for sign removal and installation.

 

Route 690 (Menokin Road)

Town of West Point

 

Road Resurfacing

Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Mobile single lane closures on Main Street between 1st Street and Route 30/33 (14th Street) as crews begin milling ahead of road resurfacing with cape seal later this spring.

Caroline County

 

Route 207 Southbound Bridge Replacement

Route 207 is reduced to a single northbound and southbound lane at the bridge over the Mattaponi River. Traffic is traveling in the northbound lanes while the southbound bridge is closed for a replacement project. The new southbound bridge is anticipated to open to traffic in Sept. 2021.

 

Route 743 (Clifton Road) over South River

Construction began in December 2020 to replace a structurally deficient timber bridge on Clifton Road over the South River. The existing bridge is open during construction. The new bridge will be a concrete structure, and will allow heavier vehicles to cross. The new bridge is scheduled to open in Oct. 2021.

 

City of Fredericksburg

 

Route 3 Business at Chatham Bridge

The Chatham Bridge is closed to traffic for an improvement project. Drivers should follow the posted detour signs directing traffic around the bridge closure. The bridge will reopen to traffic in October 2021, and all construction work will be complete by April 2022.

 

Essex County

 

Route 17 Corridor Improvements

Construction has begun on spot improvements to improve bicyclist and pedestrian travel and enhance traffic flow along Route 17 in the Tappahannock area. Most lane closures will be scheduled during overnight hours due to heavy traffic volumes near the Rt. 17 and Rt. 360 intersection. Project completion is June 2021.

 

Gloucester County

 

Pedestrian Improvements at Route 17 and Route 17 Business (Main Street)

Construction is substantially complete on a project to build sidewalk, crosswalks, pedestrian refuge islands, and new pedestrian crossing equipment at the northern intersection of Route 17 and Route 17 Business, and at Route 17 and McFadden Way. Pedestrian crossing signal equipment scheduled to be installed in summer 2021.

 

Gloucester County and Middlesex County

 

Route 17 Southbound over Dragon Run

Route 17 southbound is reduced to a single lane for a bridge rehabilitation project over Dragon Run. The bridge is located at the county line between Gloucester County and Middlesex County. Project estimated completion is Aug. 2021.

 

Gloucester County and King and Queen County

 

Route 14 Bridge Replacement over Poropotank Creek

Route 14 is closed to through traffic at Poropotank Creek for a bridge replacement project. The bridge is located at the Gloucester County and King and Queen County line. Traffic is detoured to use Route 17 and Route 33 during the project. The road is scheduled to reopen in July 2021.

 

King William County

 

Route 30 and Route 360 Intersection Improvement

Construction is finished to improve the intersection of Route 30 and Route 360. The project built dedicated right and left turn lanes for eastbound Route 30, and modified turn lanes on Route 360. A sidewalk was built along Route 30 to allow pedestrians to cross Route 360. The project was completed around two months ahead of schedule.

 

Route 608 (Locust Hill Road)

A portion of Route 608 (Locust Hill Road) over Dorrell Creek is closed to allow crews to replace two large pipes. Locust Hill Road is closed to through traffic between Route 609 (Smokey Road) and Route 628 (Dorrell Road). Construction will be underway through mid-April. Signs are posted along the recommended detour route.

 

Route 662 (Sharon Road)

A portion of Sharon Road is closed for reconstruction following damage from Tropical Storm Michael. A project to reconstruct a slope and replace a culvert is anticipated to begin in spring 2021, and will reopen to traffic in summer 2021.

 

Stafford County

 

Route 1 at Potomac Creek

Construction is underway to replace the Route 1 bridge over Potomac Creek in Stafford County. Route 1 will continue to have four travel lanes open during the project, with only periodic single lane closures required. The new bridge will be complete in July 2022.

 

Spotsylvania County

 

Route 17 Overpass Replacement and Widening

Construction started in December 2020 on a project to replace the existing two-lane interstate overpass on Route 17 with a four-lane bridge. Route 17 will be widened to four travel lanes to just east of the Hospital Boulevard/Germanna Point Drive intersection. Sidewalk, a shared-use path, and pedestrian crossing equipment will be added as part of the project. Improvements will be completed in Feb. 2024.

 

Town of West Point and New Kent County

 

Route 30/33 (Eltham Bridge)

Eastbound single lane closure on Eltham Bridge, with work zone barrier. Single lane closure is in place through June 2021. Crews are identifying locations where a future project will repair grout on the bridge.

 

Westmoreland County

 

Route 3 Passing Lanes

Construction began Jan. 4 on a project to build eastbound and westbound passing lanes over a 1.5-mile segment of Route 3. When work is complete, Route 3 will become a four-lane undivided road from north of Route 639 (Winter Harbor Road) to east of Route 624 (Longwood Road), with new turn lanes at key intersections. The project will be complete in late Dec. 2021.
