From the Stafford Sheriff’s Office:

Most people look forward to Friday and the start of their weekend. Karl Mitchell, 31, of Stafford had his Friday go from bad to worse as more and more items in his possession were found to be stolen and he was linked to last month’s robbery of the SunTrust Bank in North Stafford.

At 11:54 a.m. the Stafford Sheriff’s Office received a request from the Warrenton Police Department to attempt to locate a stolen skid steer. The skid steer owner had tracked the stolen piece of equipment to an address on Shale Court in England Run North.

When Deputy A.W. Sypolt arrived, he found Mitchell performing work on the site with the stolen piece of equipment. Additionally, Mitchell had driven a Ford F350 pick-up to the scene that was stolen from Fredericksburg. Compounding his legal trouble, the trailer attached to the truck had an altered VIN plate. Deputies were able to determine the trailer was stolen from Culpeper County.

Detective J.G. Wright III has been investigating the SunTrust Bank robbery that occurred at 40 Prosperity Lane on April 27th. As a result of the investigation, Mitchell has been identified as the robbery suspect.

Mitchell has been charged with robbery and possession of stolen property and is held without bond at the Rappahannock Regional Jail. This investigation is ongoing and additional charges are possible. The booking photo is not yet available.

We would like to thank the public for their assistance in identifying the robbery suspect.
