I-95 Northbound

Exit 98 (Doswell) to I-95 Northbound Safety Rest Area

Sunday – Friday, 9 p.m. – 5 a.m. Mobile operation with single to double lane closures for milling and paving the travel lanes north of Exit 98/Doswell at mile marker 101 to mile marker 108, which is near the I-95 Northbound Safety Rest Area and Welcome Center. Crews will also close the on- and off-ramps at exit 104 (Route 207/Rogers Clark Boulevard). Northbound travelers seeking Route 207 are advised to use exit 110 (Route 639/Ladysmith Road) to I-95 southbound then use the southbound ramps to access Route 207 as the recommended detour. Drivers should use the most convenient alternate route to Route 207 depending on their destination.

 

Exit 126 (Spotsylvania)

Wednesday – Saturday, 10 p.m. – 4:30 a.m. Single northbound lane closure for construction activities related to the Route 17 overpass replacement project.

 

Exit 136 (Centreport Parkway)

Monday – Tuesday, 9 p.m. – 4:30 a.m.  Single northbound lane closure for construction activities for Improve95 projects.

 

Exit 140 (Courthouse Road)

Tuesday – Wednesday, 9 p.m. – 4:30 a.m. Single northbound lane closure for construction activities for Improve95 projects.

Exit 136 (Centreport Parkway)

Exit 136 (Centreport Parkway) to Exit 133 (Route 17)

Monday – Thursday, 5 a.m. – 10 a.m.  Single southbound lane closure for construction activities for Improve95 projects.

 

Exit 133 (Route 17) to Exit 130 (Route 3)

Tuesday – Friday, 9 p.m. – 4:30 a.m. and Thursday – Friday, 9 p.m. – 6 a.m.  Single southbound lane closure at 9 p.m. followed by double lane closures at 10 p.m. for construction activities for Improve95 projects. Double lane closures will end at 4:30 a.m. A single southbound lane will remain closed until 10 a.m. except on Friday when all lanes will reopen by 6 a.m.

 

Exit 126 (Spotsylvania) to Exit 118 (Mudd Tavern Road)

Sunday – Thursday, 9 p.m. – 5 a.m. Mobile operation with single to double lane closures for milling and paving the travel lanes south of Exit 126 at mile marker 121 to mile marker 117, which is near the Exit 118 interchange.

 

Stafford County

 

Route 1 Southbound

Monday Friday, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Single southbound lane closure for Potomac Creek bridge replacement, between Potomac Creek Lane and Centreport Parkway intersection.

 

Route 3 (King’s Highway)

Sunday – Friday. 7 p.m. – 5 a.m. Single lane closure on the westbound side of Route 3 between Route 607 and Route 218 at the bridge over CSX for work under the bridge.

 

Route 610 Eastbound (Garrisonville Road)

Wednesday – Thursday, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Eastbound right lane closure between Wolverine Way at North Stafford High School and Parkway Boulevard. Crews are building a right turn lane under permit.

 

Hospital Center Boulevard 24-hour Lane Closure

Starting Monday, June 14 at 9:30 a.m., crews will close a single westbound lane on Hospital Center Boulevard between Route 1 and Wyche Road for pavement repair. The lane will remain closed 24 hours a day until 3 p.m. Friday, June 18.

 

Spotsylvania County

 

Route 17 (Mills Drive)

Sunday – Friday, 7 p.m. – 6 a.m. Alternating single lane closures on Route 17 at the bridge over CSX railroad tracks located between Route 608 and Route 609 for bridge work.

 

Route 620 (Harrison Road)

Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Single lane closures on Harrison Road with one-way, alternating traffic between the I-95 overpass and Salem Station Boulevard for tree clearing associated with water line placement. Construction for development under permit.

 

Route 639 (Leavells Road/Salem Church Road)

Sunday – Saturday, 7 p.m. – 6 a.m. Milling and paving. Mobile single lane closures for road resurfacing work between Route 3 and Route 208. Motorists can expect a temporary rough surface in milled areas.

Sunday – Friday, 8 p.m. – 6 a.m. Mobile single lane closures or flagging operations on various routes for bridge washing. Be alert to mobile work zones at the following bridges:

 

  • Route 17 over Portobago Bay at the Essex County line
  • Route 301 over the Mattaponi River
  • Route 301 over Polecat Creek
  • Route 301 over Reedy Creek

Route 611 (Johnville Road)

Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Drivers should expect delays on Route 611 at the intersection with Route 655 (Vineyard Road) for the installation and removal of highway signs. Flaggers will direct drivers through the work zone.

 

Bridge Washing Operation

Sunday – Friday, 8 p.m. – 6 a.m. Mobile single lane closures or flagging operations on various routes for bridge washing. Be alert to mobile work zones at the following bridges:

 

  • Route 17 over Occupacia Creek
  • Route 17 over Mount Landing Creek

Surface Treatment

Route 623 (Jersey Road)

Road closure. Jersey Road is closed to through traffic near the Rt. 301 intersection for an emergency pipe replacement project. Road is anticipated to remain closed until Aug. 2021. Detour route is posted along Route 301 and Route 3.

 

King William County

 

Route 360 Eastbound

Sunday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. and 7 p.m. – 7 a.m. (24-hour operation)  Drivers should expect alternating single lane closures on Route 360 eastbound from the east end of the Moncuin Creek bridge to the King and Queen County line for milling and paving.

 

Route 613 (Dunlace Road)

Thursday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Alternating single lane closures with a flagging crew alternating one-way traffic between Route 682 (Tidy Cat Road) and Route 30 for paving.

 

Route 618 (Acquinton Church Road)

Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Mobile single lane closures with a flagging crew alternating one-way traffic between Route 600 (E. River Road) and Route 629 (Jack’s Creek Road) while crews continue paving and place stone along the shoulder.

 

Route 625 (Custis Millpond Road)

Monday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Alternating single lane closure with a flagging crew directing drivers through the work zone on Route 625 between Route 30 and Route 640 while crews apply slurry seal.

 

Mathews County

 

Route 608 (Hamburg Road/Potato Neck Road)

Monday and Tuesday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. A flagging crew will alternate, one-way traffic on Route 608 between Route 14 and Bethel Beach Road for paving, pavement marking and the placement of shoulder stone.

 

Middlesex County

 

Route 625 (Barrick’s Mill Road) Bridge Replacement

Road Closure: On Monday, June 14, va portion of Barrick’s Mill Road) will be closed to traffic at Mill Creek for approximately 14 weeks while crews replace the existing bridge over Barrick’s Mill Creek. Drivers on Barrick’s Mill Road will be detoured around the 24-hour road closure using the following routes:

 

  • Route 625 (Barrick’s Pond Road)
  • Route 626 (Wake Road)
  • Route 624 (Regent Road)

 

Northumberland County

 

Surface Treatment

Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 5 p.m. Mobile single lane closures as crews apply surface treatment on the following routes:

 

  • Route 712 (Harryhogan Road)
  • Route 790 (Lone Walnut Road)
  • Route 820 (Yeocomico View Drive)

 

Richmond County and Town of Tappahannock

 

Route 360 over the Rappahannock River: Downing Bridge

Sunday – Thursday, 9 p.m. – 6 a.m. One-way, alternating traffic on Route 360 on the Downing Bridge over the Rappahannock River between Richmond County and the Town of Tappahannock. Bridge maintenance to repair bridge deck, bridge joints. Traffic will be directed by automated flagging assistance devices.

 

Westmoreland County

 

Route 3

Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 5 p.m., Motorists can expect one-way, alternating traffic on Route 3. After 9 a.m. on Wednesday, there will be a traffic shift. Route 3 traffic will be shifted slightly north onto new pavement between Flat Iron Road and Winter Harbor Road, in the work zone to build new Route 3 passing lanes over 1.5 miles. Shifting traffic will allow crews to continue to widen Route 3 to build new lanes.. The project is on schedule for completion in December 2021.

 

Bridge Washing Operation

Sunday – Friday, 8 p.m. – 6 a.m. Mobile single lane closures or flagging operations on various routes for bridge washing. Be alert to mobile work zones at the following bridges:

 

  • Route 3 over Chandlers Mill Pond
  • Route 3 over Popes Creek
  • Route 3 over Mattox Creek
  • Route 205 over Mattox Creek
  • Route 205 over Rosier Creek
  • Route 205 over Nine Mile Branch

 

 

Highway Sign Installation and Removal

Monday – Friday, 8 p.m. – 5 p.m. Drivers should expect alternating single lane closures with flaggers to direct drivers through the following work zones. Crews will be installing and removing various highway signs.

 

  • Route 624 (Flat Iron Road) – at the intersection with Route 642 (Baynesville Road)
  • Route 637 (Rappahannock Road) – at Route 634 (Claymont Road)
  • Route 631 (Longfield Road) – between Route 628 (PoMona Road) and Route 205 (Ridge Road)

Caroline County

 

Route 17 Emergency Repair

An emergency repair project is underway on Route 17 (Tidewater Trail) in Caroline County between Mount Road and Ware Creek Road to stabilize an adjacent slope and drainage pipe underneath the road. Route 17 is open to traffic, but motorists can expect one-way, alternating traffic controlled by a temporary traffic signal, or intermittent direction by a flagging crew. There is no vehicle height or width restriction in the work zone, and vehicles of all legal loads may pass through this area. Repairs are anticipated to be complete in June 2021.

 

Route 207 Southbound Bridge Replacement

Route 207 is reduced to a single northbound and southbound lane at the bridge over the Mattaponi River. Traffic is traveling in the northbound lanes while the southbound bridge is closed for a replacement project. The new southbound bridge is anticipated to open to traffic in Sept. 2021.

 

Route 743 (Clifton Road) over South River

Construction began in December 2020 to replace a structurally deficient timber bridge on Clifton Road over the South River. The existing bridge is open during construction. The new bridge will be a concrete structure, and will allow heavier vehicles to cross. The new bridge is scheduled to open in Oct. 2021.

 

City of Fredericksburg

 

Route 3 Business at Chatham Bridge

The Chatham Bridge is closed to traffic for an improvement project. Drivers should follow the posted detour signs directing traffic around the bridge closure. The bridge will reopen to traffic in Oct. 2021, and all construction work will be complete by April 2022.

 

Essex County

 

Route 17 Corridor Improvements

Construction has begun on spot improvements to improve bicyclist and pedestrian travel and enhance traffic flow along Route 17 in the Tappahannock area. Most lane closures will be scheduled during overnight hours due to heavy traffic volumes near the Rt. 17 and Rt. 360 intersection. Project completion is June 2021.

 

Gloucester County

 

Pedestrian Improvements at Route 17 and Route 17 Business (Main Street)

Construction is substantially complete on a project to build sidewalk, crosswalks, pedestrian refuge islands, and new pedestrian crossing equipment at the northern intersection of Route 17 and Route 17 Business, and at Route 17 and McFadden Way. Pedestrian crossing signal equipment scheduled to be installed in summer 2021.

 

Gloucester County and King and Queen County

 

Route 14 Bridge Replacement over Poropotank Creek

Route 14 is closed to through traffic at Poropotank Creek for a bridge replacement project. The bridge is located at the Gloucester County and King and Queen County line. Traffic is detoured to use Route 17 and Route 33 during the project. The road is scheduled to reopen in July 2021.

 

Gloucester County and Middlesex County

 

Route 17 Southbound over Dragon Run

Route 17 southbound is reduced to a single lane for a bridge rehabilitation project over Dragon Run. The bridge is located at the county line between Gloucester County and Middlesex County. Project estimated completion is Aug. 2021.

 

King George County

 

Route 623 (Jersey Road)

Jersey Road is closed to through traffic near the Rt. 301 intersection for an emergency pipe replacement project. Road is anticipated to remain closed until Aug. 2021. Detour route is posted along Route 301 and Route 3.

 

King William County

 

Route 662 (Sharon Road)

A portion of Sharon Road is closed for reconstruction following damage from Tropical Storm Michael. A project to reconstruct a slope and replace a culvert is anticipated to begin in spring 2021, and will reopen to traffic in summer 2021.

 

Stafford County

 

Route 1 at Potomac Creek

Construction is underway to replace the Route 1 bridge over Potomac Creek in Stafford County. Route 1 will continue to have four travel lanes open during the project, with only periodic single lane closures required. The new bridge will be complete in July 2022.

 

Spotsylvania County

 

Route 17 Overpass Replacement and Widening

Construction started in December 2020 on a project to replace the existing two-lane interstate overpass on Route 17 with a four-lane bridge. Route 17 will be widened to four travel lanes to just east of the Hospital Boulevard/Germanna Point Drive intersection. Sidewalk, a shared-use path, and pedestrian crossing equipment will be added as part of the project. Improvements will be completed in Feb. 2024.

 

Town of West Point and New Kent County

 

Route 30/33 (Eltham Bridge)

Eastbound single lane closure on Eltham Bridge, with work zone barrier. Single lane closure is in place through June 2021. Crews are identifying locations where a future project will repair grout on the bridge.

  

Westmoreland County

 

Route 3 Passing Lanes

Construction began Jan. 4 on a project to build eastbound and westbound passing lanes over a 1.5-mile segment of Route 3. When work is complete, Route 3 will become a four-lane undivided road from north of Route 639 (Winter Harbor Road) to east of Route 624 (Longwood Road), with new turn lanes at key intersections. The project will be complete in late Dec. 2021.
