I-95 Northbound and Southbound

 

Exit 104 (Carmel Church) to Exit 148 (Quantico)

Thursday, 9 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Mobile single lane closure for pothole repair.

 

I-95 Southbound

 

Exit 136 (Centreport Parkway) to Exit 133 (Route 17)

Wednesday – Thursday, 4 a.m. – 10 a.m., Single southbound lane closure for construction activities for Improve95 projects.

 

Exit 133 (Route 17) to Exit 130 (Route 3)

Sunday – Monday, 10 p.m. – 10 a.m. Alternating double lane closures beginning at 10 p.m. until 4:30 a.m. At 4:30 a.m. a single southbound lane will remain closed until 10 a.m. for construction activities associated with the Improve95 projects.

 

Exit 130 (Route 3) to Exit 118 (Thornburg)

Sunday – Thursday, 9 p.m. – 5 a.m. Mobile operation for replacement of the reflective lens pavement markers. Drivers should be prepared for slow moving vehicles and a single lane closure in each mobile work zone.

 

Exit 118 (Thornburg) On and Off-Ramps

Sunday – Thursday, 9 p.m. – 5 a.m. Crews will mill and pave the I-95 southbound on and off ramps at Exit 118/Thornburg. A single lane on I-95 southbound will be closed during the ramp closures. Drivers entering or exiting I-95 southbound at Exit 118 should follow the posted detour. Ramp closures will take place on the following nights:

 

  • Sunday and Monday: Ramp from I-95 southbound will be closed
  • Tuesday and Wednesday: Ramp onto I-95 southbound will be closed

 

I-95 Northbound

 

Exit 148 (Quantico)

Monday – Thursday 9 p.m. – 4:30 a.m. and Friday – Saturday, 10 p.m. – 5 a.m. Single northbound lane closure for construction activities for Improve95 projects.

 

Exit 126 (Spotsylvania)

Tuesday – Wednesday, 9 p.m. – 4:30 a.m. Single lane closure on I-95 northbound for bridge pier work.

 

Stafford County

 

Route 1 Southbound

Monday Friday, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Single southbound lane closure for Potomac Creek bridge replacement, between Potomac Creek Lane and Centreport Parkway intersection.

 

Route 17 Northbound Milling and Paving

Sunday Thursday, 8:30 p.m. – 5 a.m. Mobile operation with single northbound lane closure between Gateway Boulevard and Hartwood Church Road for milling and paving. Drivers may experience a temporary rough driving surface until crews apply new asphalt to the milled surface. Delays are possible near the mobile work zone.

 

Hospital Center Boulevard

Monday Thursday, 9:30 a.m. – 3 p.m. and Friday, 9:30 a.m. – 2 p.m. Single lane closures on Hospital Center Boulevard between Route 1 and Austin Ridge Drive for Improve95 projects construction.

 

Road Resurfacing

Wednesday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Drivers should expect alternating single lane closures on the following routes for surface treatment. Flaggers will direct drivers through each work zone.

Spotsylvania County

 

Route 3 Eastbound

Sunday – Thursday, 8 p.m. – 5 a.m. Mobile work zone with alternating lane closures on Route 3 eastbound between Elys Ford Road and Andora Drive for milling and paving.

 

Route 639 (Leavells Road/Salem Church Road)

Sunday – Thursday, 7 p.m. – 6 a.m. Mobile single lane closures for pavement marking following recent paving work between Route 3 and Route 208.

 

Route 647 (Blaydes Corner Road)

Monday – Tuesday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Alternating single lane closure with flaggers for surface treatment on Blaydes Corner Road between Marye Road and Partlow Road.

 

Drainage Pipe Replacements

Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 4 p.m. Crews will be replacing drainage pipes at several locations this week. Expect brief delays or detours around the following work sites.

Route 207

Monday – Tuesday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Alternating single lane closure on Route 360 from the King and Queen County line to Route 730 (Aviation Road) for a mobile pavement marking operation. Flaggers will direct drivers through the work zone.

 

Gloucester County

 

Route 3 (John Clayton Memorial Highway)

Monday – Friday, 7 p.m. – 7 a.m. Alternating single lane closures on Route 3 westbound between Route 604 (Indian Road) and Route 17 Business (Main Street) for milling and paving. Drivers should expect a temporary rough driving surface during the milling phase of the project.

 

King and Queen County

 

Road Resurfacing

Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Drivers should expect alternating single lane closures on the following routes for surface treatment. Flaggers will direct drivers through each work zone.

Robert O. Norris Bridge

Tuesday, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m., Drivers should expect daytime delays due to a single lane closure on the Route 3 bridge over the Rappahannock River. Dominion Energy will be completing work associated with the removal of utility equipment from the bridge.

 

Lancaster County

 

Road Resurfacing

Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 5 p.m. Drivers should expect alternating single lane closures on the following routes for surface treatment. Flaggers will direct drivers through each work zone.

Route 3 (General Puller Highway)

Wednesday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Mobile operation for adding pavement markers on Route 3 between Regent Road and Twiggs Ferry Road.

 

Route 17 Northbound over Dragon Run

Monday, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. Single lane closure on the Route 17 northbound bridge over Dragon Run located between Dragon Drive and Gloucester Road. Crews will be conducting a routine bridge inspection.

 

Northumberland County

 

Route 609 (Remo Road)

Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Mobile single lane closure between Route 200 and Mill Point Drive for pavement marking and placing shoulder stone.

 

Road Resurfacing

Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Drivers should expect alternating single lane closures on the following routes for surface treatment. Flaggers will direct drivers through each work zone.

Route 360 over the Rappahannock River: Downing Bridge

Sunday Thursday, 9 p.m. – 6 a.m. One-way, alternating traffic on Route 360 on the Downing Bridge over the Rappahannock River between Richmond County and the Town of Tappahannock. Bridge maintenance to repair bridge deck, bridge joints. Traffic will be directed by automated flagging assistance devices.

 

Westmoreland County

 

Route 3

Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. Single lane closure on Route 3 between Flat Iron Road and Winter Harbor Road with one-way, alternating traffic. Construction to slightly widen Route 3 to build passing lanes.

Caroline County

 

Route 17 Emergency Repair

An emergency repair project is underway on Route 17 (Tidewater Trail) in Caroline County between Mount Road and Ware Creek Road to stabilize an adjacent slope and drainage pipe underneath the road. Route 17 is open to traffic, but motorists can expect one-way, alternating traffic controlled by a temporary traffic signal, or intermittent direction by a flagging crew. There is no vehicle height or width restriction in the work zone, and vehicles of all legal loads may pass through this area. Repairs are anticipated to be complete in late Aug. 2021.

 

Route 207 Southbound Bridge Replacement

Route 207 is reduced to a single northbound and southbound lane at the bridge over the Mattaponi River. Traffic is traveling in the northbound lanes while the southbound bridge is closed for a replacement project. The new southbound bridge is anticipated to open to traffic in Sept. 2021.

 

Route 743 (Clifton Road) over South River

Construction began in December 2020 to replace a structurally deficient timber bridge on Clifton Road over the South River. The existing bridge is open during construction. The new bridge will be a concrete structure, and will allow heavier vehicles to cross. The new bridge is scheduled to open in Oct. 2021.

  

City of Fredericksburg

 

Route 3 Business at Chatham Bridge

The Chatham Bridge is closed to traffic for an improvement project. Drivers should follow the posted detour signs directing traffic around the bridge closure. The bridge will reopen to traffic in Oct. 2021, and all construction work will be complete by April 2022.

 

Gloucester County

 

Pedestrian Improvements at Route 17 and Route 17 Business (Main Street)

Construction is substantially complete on a project to build sidewalk, crosswalks, pedestrian refuge islands, and new pedestrian crossing equipment at the northern intersection of Route 17 and Route 17 Business, and at Route 17 and McFadden Way. Pedestrian crossing signal equipment scheduled to be installed in summer 2021.

 

Gloucester County and King and Queen County

 

Route 14 Bridge Replacement over Poropotank Creek

Route 14 is closed to through traffic at Poropotank Creek for a bridge replacement project. The bridge is located at the Gloucester County and King and Queen County line. Traffic is detoured to use Route 17 and Route 33 during the project. The road is scheduled to reopen July 30, 2021.

 

Gloucester County and Middlesex County

 

Route 17 Southbound over Dragon Run

Route 17 southbound is reduced to a single lane for a bridge rehabilitation project over Dragon Run. The bridge is located at the county line between Gloucester County and Middlesex County. Project estimated completion is Aug. 2021.

 

King George County

 

Route 301 Slope Repair

Route 301 southbound near Route 616 (Washington Mill Road) has been reduced to one lane in King George County for motorist safety due to the failure of an adjacent slope. An emergency repair is underway. The lane is anticipated to reopen by early Aug. 2021.

 

Route 623 (Jersey Road)

Jersey Road is closed to through traffic near the Rt. 301 intersection for an emergency pipe replacement project. Road is anticipated to remain closed until Aug. 2021. Detour route is posted along Route 301 and Route 3.

 

King William County

 

Route 662 (Sharon Road)

A portion of Sharon Road is closed for reconstruction following damage from Tropical Storm Michael. A project to reconstruct a slope and replace a culvert is anticipated to begin in spring 2021, and will reopen to traffic in summer 2021.

 

Middlesex County

 

Route 625 (Barrick’s Mill Road) Bridge Replacement

A portion of Barrick’s Mill Road is closed to traffic at Mill Creek through September 2021 while crews replace the existing bridge over Barrick’s Mill Creek. Drivers on Barrick’s Mill Road will be detoured around the 24-hour road closure using the following routes:

 

  • Route 625 (Barrick’s Pond Road)
  • Route 626 (Wake Road)
  • Route 624 (Regent Road)

 

Northumberland County

 

Route 202 (Hampton Hall Road)

Hampton Hall Road is closed to through traffic east of Route 619 (Deer Run Road) due to damage following heavy rain and flooding on June 11. Motorists should continue to follow the posted detour route for this closure:

 

  • Route 617 (Lively Hope Road)
  • Route 600 (Gibeon Road)
  • Route 360 (Richmond Road)

 

Route 202 is anticipated to reopen to traffic on or about Tuesday 27, 2021, after repairs are complete.

 

Richmond County

 

Route 637 (County Bridge Road)

County Bridge Road is closed to through traffic at the bridge over Cat Point Creek due to damage following heavy rain and flooding on June 11. A timeline to restore and reopen the road is still under development.

 

Stafford County

 

Route 1 at Potomac Creek

Construction is underway to replace the Route 1 bridge over Potomac Creek in Stafford County. Route 1 will continue to have four travel lanes open during the project, with only periodic single lane closures required. The new bridge will be complete in July 2022.

 

Spotsylvania County

 

Route 17 Overpass Replacement and Widening

Construction started in December 2020 on a project to replace the existing two-lane interstate overpass on Route 17 with a four-lane bridge. Route 17 will be widened to four travel lanes to just east of the Hospital Boulevard/Germanna Point Drive intersection. Sidewalk, a shared-use path, and pedestrian crossing equipment will be added as part of the project. Improvements will be completed in Feb. 2024.

 

Town of West Point and New Kent County

 

Route 30/33 (Eltham Bridge)

Eastbound single lane closure on Eltham Bridge, with work zone barrier. Single lane closure is in place. Crews are identifying locations where a future project will repair grout on the bridge.

 

Westmoreland County

 

Route 3 Passing Lanes

Construction began Jan. 4 on a project to build eastbound and westbound passing lanes over a 1.5-mile segment of Route 3. When work is complete, Route 3 will become a four-lane undivided road from north of Route 639 (Winter Harbor Road) to east of Route 624 (Longwood Road), with new turn lanes at key intersections. The project will be complete in late Dec. 2021.
