I-95 Southbound

Exit 136 (Centreport Parkway) to Exit 133 (Route 17)

Sunday – Tuesday, 10 p.m. – 10 a.m. and Wednesday – Thursday, 6 a.m. – 10 a.m. Single lane closure near the interchanges for Improve95 projects.

Tuesday – Thursday, 9 p.m. – 10 a.m. and Thursday – Friday, 9 p.m. – 5 a.m. Single lane closure near the interchange followed by double lane closure at 10 p.m. Between midnight and 3 a.m., crews will intermittently stop all I-95 southbound traffic up to 30 minutes at a time.  Double lane closures will end at 4:30 a.m. A single southbound lane will remain closed near the interchange until 10 a.m. except on Friday, Aug. 27, when all southbound lanes will reopen by 5 a.m.

 

Exit 136 (Centreport Parkway)

Monday – Thursday, 9 p.m. – 10 a.m. Single lane closure near Exit 136 at mile markers 135-134 for Improve95 projects  followed by double lane closure at 10 p.m. Between midnight and 3 a.m., crews will intermittently stop all I-95 southbound traffic up to 30 minutes at a time. Virginia State Police will assist with traffic control. Double lane closures will end at 4:30 a.m. A single southbound lane will remain closed near the interchange until 10 a.m.

 

Exit 133 (Route 17)

Tuesday – Thursday, 9 p.m. – 10 a.m. and Thursday – Friday, 9 p.m. – 5 a.m. Single lane closure near the interchange followed by double lane closure at 10 p.m. Between midnight and 3 a.m., crews will intermittently stop all I-95 southbound traffic up to 30 minutes at a time. Virginia State Police will assist with traffic control. Double lane closures will end at 4:30 a.m. A single southbound lane will remain closed near the interchange until 10 a.m. The work zone is needed to allow crews to install overhead signs near the interchange as part of the Improve 95 construction.

 

Exit 130 (Route 3)

Sunday – Monday, 10 p.m. – 10 a.m. Single southbound lane closure near the interchange.  

 

Exit 126 (Spotsylvania)

Tuesday – Wednesday, 9 a.m. – Noon. Single lane closure for guardrail repair.

 

I-95 Northbound

 

Exit 104 (Carmel Church) to Exit 110 (Ladysmith)

Sunday – Thursday, 9 p.m. – 5 a.m. Mobile operation with double lane closures for milling and paving the travel lanes at mile markers 106 to 108.

 

Exit 136 (Centreport Parkway)

Tuesday, 9 p.m. – 4:30 a.m. and Friday – Saturday, 10 p.m. – 5 a.m. Single northbound lane closure near Exit 136 at mile markers 135-134 for Improve95 projects.

Wednesday – Friday, 9 p.m. – 4:30 a.m. Single northbound lane closure near the interchange starts at 9 p.m. followed by double lane closures at 10 p.m. Between midnight and 3 a.m., crews will intermittently stop all I-95 northbound traffic up to 30 minutes at a time. Virginia State Police will assist with traffic control. All northbound lanes will reopen by 4:30 a.m.

 

Exit 148 (Quantico)

Tuesday – Thursday, 9 p.m. – 4:30 a.m., Thursday – Friday, 9 p.m. – 4:30 a.m.  and Friday – Saturday, 10 p.m. – 5 a.m. Single northbound lane closure near the interchange for Improve 95 construction work.

 

I-95 Northbound and Southbound

 

Exit 126 (Spotsylvania)

Tuesday – Thursday, 9 a.m. – 5 a.m. Single lane closure starts at 9 p.m. followed by double lane closures at 10 p.m. for bridge inspection of the Route 17 (Mills Drive) overpass.

 

Exit 118 (Thornburg) – Exit 130 (Route 3)

Monday – Tuesday, 9 p.m. – 5 a.m. Alternating single lane closures on I-95 for routine safety inspection of the Cowan Boulevard overpass, located at mile marker 131 in the City of Fredericksburg. Crews will also be inspecting a private road overpass located at mile marker 120 near the Exit 118 interchange.

 

Stafford County

 

Route 1 Northbound

Tuesday Wednesday, 9:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Single northbound lane closure at the bridge over Austin Run for repairs.

 

Route 1 Southbound

Monday Friday, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Single southbound lane closure for Potomac Creek bridge replacement, between Potomac Creek Lane and Centreport Parkway intersection.

 

Route 3 Westbound

Monday Friday, 24-hour closure during weekdays. Starting 6 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 23, the right lane on Route 3 westbound bridge over CSX railroad tracks will be closed 24-hours every weekday for approximately five months. Crews will reopen the bridge each Friday by 8 p.m. The bridge is located between Cool Springs Road and Chatham Heights Road. Read the release here.

 

Route 17 Northbound

Monday Friday, 8 a.m. – 6 p.m. Mobile daytime operation with single lane closure on Route 17 northbound between Hartwood Church Road and the Fauquier County line. Drivers may experience a temporary rough driving surface until crews apply new asphalt to the milled surface. Delays are possible near the mobile work zone.

 

Countywide Line Striping

Sunday – Friday, 8 p.m. – 6 a.m. Drivers should expect a mobile operation with alternating single lane closures or flagging operations on various primary and secondary routes in Stafford County. Expect periodic delays in the mobile work zone for line striping. Motorists are encouraged to avoid crossing over freshly painted lines. The paint will be wet and may adhere to vehicle.

 

Spotsylvania County

 

Route 17 (Mills Drive)

Tuesday – Thursday, 9 a.m. – 5 a.m. Alternating, single lane closures on Route 17 bridge over I-95 for routine safety inspection. A flagging crew will alternate, one-way traffic through the work zone.

 

Pavement Markings

Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Mobile operation with single lane closures on the following routes to allow crews to apply pavement markings:

 

·    Route 652 (Belmont Road)

·    Route 719 (Belmont Road)

·    Route 1249 (Campbell Drive)

 

Sign Installation and Removal

Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Drivers should expect alternating single lane closures with flaggers to direct drivers through the following work zones. Crews will be installing and removing various highway signs.

 

Route 610 (Elys Ford Road) near Ford Road

Route 621(Orange Plank Road) between Route 3 and Brock Road

 

Caroline County

 

Pavement Markings

Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Mobile operation with single lane closures on the following routes to allow crews to apply pavement markings:

 

·    Route 603 (Countyline Church Road)

·    Route 605 (Paige Road)

·    Route 628 (Antioch Road)

·    Route 722 (Nelson Hill Road)

 

Essex County

 

Route 17

Sunday – Thursday, 7 p.m. – 5 a.m. and Monday – Thursday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Single lane closure on Route 17 and Route 17/360 northbound and southbound between the Hoskins Creek Bridge and Mt. Landing Creek Bridge, from Airport Rod to Mt. Landing Creek Bridge for milling and paving.

 

Route 1036 (Ball Street)

Sunday – Thursday, 7 p.m. – 5 a.m. Alternating, one-way traffic on Ball Street between Route 360 and White Oak Drive for milling and paving. Flaggers will direct drivers in the work zone.

 

Gloucester County

 

Route 17

Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Mobile single lane closures on Route 17 between Davenport Road and Adner Road for milling and paving. Drivers may experience a temporary rough driving surface until crews apply new asphalt to the milled surface. Delays are possible near the mobile work zone.

 

Route 17, Route 14, Route 619 and Route 17 Business (Main Street) Intersection

Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.  Right turn lane and right shoulder closures at the intersection near Fiddlers Green Road. Construction is part of pedestrian improvement project to add sidewalk and pedestrian crossing signal equipment.

 

King and Queen County

 

Route 614 (Rockspring Road)

Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Single lane closure with alternating, one-way traffic between Union Hope Road and Hickory Hill Road to allow crews to take soil samples. A flagging crew will direct drivers through the work zone.

 

King George County

 

Route 301

Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Short-term right lane closure on Route 301 southbound for light pole inspection at the weigh station.

 

Route 623 (Jersey Road)

Monday – Thursday, 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. A flagging crew will alternate one-way traffic on Jersey Road near Route 301 for road safety improvements.

 

King William County

 

Road Resurfacing

Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Drivers should expect alternating single lane closures on the following routes for surface treatment. Flaggers will direct drivers through each work zone.

Northumberland County

 

Route 617 (Lively Hope Road)

Monday – Tuesday, 7 a.m. – 5 p.m. A flagging crew will alternate one-way traffic on Lively Hope Road between Route 600 (Gibeon Road) and Route 202 (Hampton Hall Road) for surface treatment.

 

Bridge Washing Operation

Monday – Tuesday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Mobile single lane closures or flagging operations on various routes for bridge washing. Be alert to mobile work zones at the following bridges:

 

·    Route 360 between Dodlyt Road and Millwood Lane

·    Route 360 between Forrest Landing Road and Dudlyt Road

·    Route 202 between Locust Lane and Kinsale Road

 

Richmond County and Town of Tappahannock

 

Route 360 over the Rappahannock River: Downing Bridge

Sunday Thursday, 9 p.m. – 6 a.m. One-way, alternating traffic on Route 360 on the Downing Bridge over the Rappahannock River between Richmond County and the Town of Tappahannock. Bridge maintenance for repairs. Traffic will be directed by automated flagging assistance devices.

 

Richmond County

 

Route 3

Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Alternating, single lane closures on Route 3 over Chinn’s Mill Pond for repairs. Flaggers will direct drivers in the work zone.

 

Bridge Washing Operation

Thursday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Mobile single lane closures or flagging operations on various routes for bridge washing. Be alert to mobile work zones at the following bridge:

 

·    Route 3 between Richmond Hill Road and Rose Hill Drive

 

Town of Tappahannock

 

Route 17

Thursday – Friday, 8 p.m. – 4 p.m. Expect short-duration full traffic stops on Route 17 at the bridge over Hoskins Creek for load testing. Each stop may last up to 15 minutes.

 

Westmoreland County

 

Route 3

Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. Single lane closure on Route 3 between Flat Iron Road and Winter Harbor Road.

 

Road Resurfacing

Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 5 p.m. Drivers should expect alternating single lane closures on the following routes for surface treatment. Flaggers will direct drivers through each work zone.

Caroline County

 

Route 17 Emergency Repair

An emergency repair project is underway on Route 17 (Tidewater Trail) in Caroline County between Mount Road and Ware Creek Road to stabilize an adjacent slope and drainage pipe underneath the road. Route 17 is open to traffic, but motorists can expect one-way, alternating traffic controlled by a temporary traffic signal, or intermittent direction by a flagging crew. There is no vehicle height or width restriction in the work zone, and vehicles of all legal loads may pass through this area. Repairs are anticipated to be complete in late Aug. 2021.

 

Route 207 Southbound Bridge Replacement

Route 207 is reduced to a single northbound and southbound lane at the bridge over the Mattaponi River. Traffic is traveling in the northbound lanes while the southbound bridge is closed for a replacement project. The new southbound bridge is anticipated to open to traffic in Sept. 2021.

 

Route 743 (Clifton Road) over South River

Construction began in December 2020 to replace a structurally deficient timber bridge on Clifton Road over the South River. The existing bridge is open during construction. The new bridge will be a concrete structure, and will allow heavier vehicles to cross. The new bridge is scheduled to open in Oct. 2021.

 

City of Fredericksburg

 

Route 3 Business at Chatham Bridge

The Chatham Bridge is closed to traffic for an improvement project. Drivers should follow the posted detour signs directing traffic around the bridge closure. The bridge will reopen to traffic in Oct. 2021, and all construction work will be complete by April 2022.

 

Gloucester County

 

Pedestrian Improvements at Route 17 and Route 17 Business (Main Street)

Construction is substantially complete on a project to build sidewalk, crosswalks, pedestrian refuge islands, and new pedestrian crossing equipment at the northern intersection of Route 17 and Route 17 Business, and at Route 17 and McFadden Way. Pedestrian crossing signal equipment scheduled to be installed in summer 2021.

 

Gloucester County and Middlesex County

 

Route 17 Southbound over Dragon Run

Route 17 southbound is reduced to a single lane for a bridge rehabilitation project over Dragon Run. The bridge is located at the county line between Gloucester County and Middlesex County. Project estimated completion is Aug. 2021.

 

King George County

 

Route 301 Slope Repair

Route 301 southbound near Route 616 (Washington Mill Road) has been reduced to one lane in King George County for motorist safety due to the failure of an adjacent slope. An emergency repair is underway. The lane is anticipated to reopen in fall 2021.

 

 

Middlesex County

 

Route 625 (Barrick’s Mill Road) Bridge Replacement

A portion of Barrick’s Mill Road is closed to traffic at Mill Creek through September 2021 while crews replace the existing bridge over Barrick’s Mill Creek. Drivers on Barrick’s Mill Road will be detoured around the 24-hour road closure using the following routes:

 

·    Route 625 (Barrick’s Pond Road)

·    Route 626 (Wake Road)

·    Route 624 (Regent Road)

 

Richmond County

 

Route 637 (County Bridge Road)

County Bridge Road is closed to through traffic at the bridge over Cat Point Creek due to damage following heavy rain and flooding on June 11. A timeline to restore and reopen the road is still under development.

 

Stafford County

 

Route 1 at Potomac Creek

Construction is underway to replace the Route 1 bridge over Potomac Creek in Stafford County. Route 1 will continue to have four travel lanes open during the project, with only periodic single lane closures required. The new bridge will be complete in July 2022.

 

Spotsylvania County

 

Route 17 Overpass Replacement and Widening

Construction started in December 2020 on a project to replace the existing two-lane interstate overpass on Route 17 with a four-lane bridge. Route 17 will be widened to four travel lanes to just east of the Hospital Boulevard/Germanna Point Drive intersection. Sidewalk, a shared-use path, and pedestrian crossing equipment will be added as part of the project. Improvements will be completed in Feb. 2024.

 

Town of West Point and New Kent County

 

Route 30/33 (Eltham Bridge)

Eastbound single lane closure on Eltham Bridge, with work zone barrier. Single lane closure is in place. Crews are identifying locations where a future project will repair grout on the bridge.

 

Westmoreland County

 

Route 3 Passing Lanes

Construction began Jan. 4 on a project to build eastbound and westbound passing lanes over a 1.5-mile segment of Route 3. When work is complete, Route 3 will become a four-lane undivided road from north of Route 639 (Winter Harbor Road) to east of Route 624 (Longwood Road), with new turn lanes at key intersections. The project will be complete in late Dec. 2021.
