I-95 Southbound

 

Exit 136 (Centreport Parkway) to Exit 133 (Route 17)

Tuesday – Thursday, 10 p.m. – 10 a.m. and Thursday, 10 p.m. – 6 a.m. Friday. Double lane closures between these interchanges for Improve95 project construction, with single lane closures only after 4:30 a.m.

 

Exit 126 (Spotsylvania) to Exit 118 (Thornburg)

Tuesday 10 p.m. – 4:30 a.m. Wednesday. At mile marker 125, near the Route 17 overpass, motorists can expect a single lane closure at 10 p.m. Tuesday, with double lane closures at 11 p.m. through 4:30 a.m. Wednesday. Between midnight and 3 a.m. Wednesday all southbound traffic may be stopped for up to 30 minutes to move a construction crane across the travel lanes. Virginia State Police will provide traffic control support.

 

Wednesday – Thursday, 9:30 p.m. – 4:30 a.m. Single lane closure near the Route 17 overpass at mile marker 125

 

I-95 Northbound

 

Exit 104 (Carmel Church) to Exit 110 (Ladysmith)

Tuesday – Friday, 9 p.m. – 5 a.m. Mobile operation with double lane closures for milling and paving the travel lanes at mile markers 106 to 108.

 

I-95 Northbound Safety Rest Area at Ladysmith

Tuesday and Wednesday, 10 p.m. – 5 a.m. The I-95 Northbound Safety Rest Area at Ladysmith will be closed overnight on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings to allow crews to pave the rest area’s ramps and merge areas.

 

Exit 110 (Ladysmith) to Exit 118 (Thornburg)

Wednesday, 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Single lane closure near mile marker 116 for guardrail repair.

 

Exit 126 (Spotsylvania) to Exit 130 (Route 3)

Tuesday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 5 p.m. All northbound travel lanes will remain open, but stay alert for shoulder closures between mile markers 126-129 as crews begin construction for installation of the I-95 northbound variable speed limit initiative.

 

Exit 133 (Route 17) to Exit 136 (Centreport Parkway)

Tuesday – Friday, 9 p.m. – 4:30 a.m. Single lane closure between interchanges for Improve95 project construction.

Stafford County

 

Route 1 Southbound

Tuesday, noon – 3 p.m. and Wednesday Thursday, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. and Friday, 9 a.m. – noon. Single southbound lane closure for Potomac Creek bridge replacement, between Potomac Creek Lane and Centreport Parkway intersection.

 

Route 17 Northbound

Wednesday – Thursday, 8 p.m. – 7 a.m. Single lane closure between I-95 and the Sanford Drive and South Gateway Drive intersection for Improve95 project construction.

 

Wednesday Friday, 8 a.m. – 6 p.m. Single, mobile lane closures on Route 17 northbound between Hartwood Church Road and the Fauquier County line. Drivers may experience a temporary rough driving surface until crews apply new asphalt to the milled surface.

 

Tuesday – Saturday, 8 p.m. – 6 a.m. Mobile single lane closures between Stafford Lakes Parkway and the Fauquier County line for paving and pavement marking.

 

Route 17 Southbound

Wednesday – Thursday, 7 p.m. – 6 a.m. Single lane closure between the Sanford Drive and South Gateway Drive intersection and I-95 for Improve95 projects construction.

 

Route 607 (River Road)

Tuesday, noon – 4:30 p.m. and Wednesday – Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. The eastbound lane of River Road will be closed from Gordon Street to Route 3 Business. Crews will be paving in connection with the Chatham Bridge rehabilitation project. The westbound lane of River Road, carrying traffic from Route 3 Business to Gordon Street, will remain open.

 

Route 615 (Skyline Drive)

Tuesday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 7 p.m. Single lane closures for milling and paving.

 

Route 1361 (Deep Run Road)

Tuesday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 7 p.m. Single lane closures for milling and paving.

 

Countywide Line Striping

Tuesday – Friday, 7 p.m. – 6 a.m. Mobile operation with alternating single lane closures or flagging operations on various primary and secondary routes in Stafford. Expect periodic delays in the mobile work zone for line striping. Motorists are encouraged to avoid crossing over freshly painted lines. The paint will be wet and may adhere to vehicle.

 

City of Fredericksburg

 

Sophia Street

Tuesday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Be alert for periodic traffic stops between William Street and Sophia Street, with direction from a flagging crew. Crews will be paving in connection with the Chatham Bridge rehabilitation project.

 

Spotsylvania County

 

Route 208 (Courthouse Road)

Thursday and Friday, 8 a.m. – 7 p.m. Expect mobile single lane closures on Route 208 in the Lake Anna area between Lewistown Road and Kentucky Spring Road in Louisa County for bridge washing.

 

Caroline County

 

Route 17

Tuesday. Traffic shift at site of emergency repair project on Route 17 between Mount Road and Ware Creek Road. Single lane closure will be shifting to the opposite side of the road. One lane will remain closed to traffic. Temporary traffic signal will continue to control one-way traffic for approximately two additional weeks, through mid-September.

 

Route 17

Tuesday, noon – 7 p.m. and Wednesday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 7 p.m. Mobile bridge washing between Route 301 and Route 2. Single lane closures.

 

Route 207 (Rogers Clark Boulevard)

Tuesday, noon – 7 p.m. and Wednesday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 7 p.m. Mobile bridge washing between Route 301 and Golansville Road. Single lane closures.

 

Route 301

Tuesday, noon – 7 p.m. and Wednesday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 7 p.m. Mobile bridge washing between Route 17 and Route 207. Single lane closures.

 

Route 672 (Nelson Hill Road)

Tuesday, noon – 7 p.m. and Wednesday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 7 p.m. Mobile bridge washing between Industrial Drive and Devils Three Jump Road. Single lane closures.

 

Route 665 (Dodge City Road)

Beginning Tuesday, Sept. 7, around 9 a.m., Dodge City Road will be closed to through traffic at the bridge over Beverly Run for a bridge replacement project. The road will be closed to through traffic until early January 2022. During the closure drivers will be detoured approximately 5 miles using the following recommended routes:

 

  • Route 665 (Dodge City Road)
  • Route 625 (Passing Road)
  • Route 618 (Beverly Run Road)

 

King William County

 

Route 360

Wednesday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Single, mobile lane closure from the Moncuin Creek bridge to the King and Queen County line. Crews will be placing fresh shoulder stone.

 

Middlesex County

 

Route 3

Tuesday, noon – 7 p.m. Single lane closures for milling and paving between the intersection with Regent Road and the Route 3 (Twiggs Ferry Road) westbound crossover.

 

Route 33

Wednesday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Mobile operation with single lane closures on Route 33 between Route 3 (Twiggs Ferry Road) and Mill Creek Road for milling and paving.

 

Route 626 (Regent Road)

Tuesday, noon – 7 p.m. Single lane closures for milling and paving between the intersection with Route 624 (Regent Road) and Route 33.

 

Northumberland County

 

Route 200

Wednesday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Single lane closures between the Northumberland and Lancaster County line and Old Glebe Point Road. Paving.

 

Richmond County

 

Route 3

Wednesday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Single lane closure with one, way alternating traffic at the bridge over Chinn’s Mill Pond, near the Lancaster County line. Bridge repairs.

 

Westmoreland County

 

Road Resurfacing

Tuesday – Friday 7 a.m. – 5 p.m. Drivers should expect alternating single lane closures on the following routes for surface treatment. Flaggers will direct drivers through each work zone.

 

  • Route 624 (Longwood Road)

Caroline County

 

Route 17 Emergency Repair

An emergency repair project is underway on Route 17 (Tidewater Trail) in Caroline County between Mount Road and Ware Creek Road to stabilize an adjacent slope and drainage pipe underneath the road. Route 17 is open to traffic, but motorists can expect one-way, alternating traffic controlled by a temporary traffic signal, or intermittent direction by a flagging crew. There is no vehicle height or width restriction in the work zone, and vehicles of all legal loads may pass through this area. Repairs are anticipated to be complete in mid-Sept. 2021.

 

Route 207 Southbound Bridge Replacement

Route 207 is reduced to a single northbound and southbound lane at the bridge over the Mattaponi River. Traffic is traveling in the northbound lanes while the southbound bridge is closed for a replacement project. The new southbound bridge is anticipated to open to traffic in Sept. 2021.

 

Route 743 (Clifton Road) over South River

Construction began in December 2020 to replace a structurally deficient timber bridge on Clifton Road over the South River. The existing bridge is open during construction. The new bridge will be a concrete structure, and will allow heavier vehicles to cross. The new bridge is scheduled to open in Oct. 2021.

 

City of Fredericksburg

 

Route 3 Business at Chatham Bridge

The Chatham Bridge is closed to traffic for an improvement project. Drivers should follow the posted detour signs directing traffic around the bridge closure. The bridge will reopen to traffic in Oct. 2021, and all construction work will be complete by April 2022.

 

Gloucester County

 

Pedestrian Improvements at Route 17 and Route 17 Business (Main Street)

Construction is substantially complete on a project to build sidewalk, crosswalks, pedestrian refuge islands, and new pedestrian crossing equipment at the northern intersection of Route 17 and Route 17 Business, and at Route 17 and McFadden Way. Pedestrian crossing signal equipment scheduled to be installed in summer 2021.

 

Gloucester County and Middlesex County

 

Route 17 Southbound over Dragon Run

Route 17 southbound is reduced to a single lane for a bridge rehabilitation project over Dragon Run. The bridge is located at the county line between Gloucester County and Middlesex County. Project estimated completion has been postponed to Sept. 2021.

 

King George County

 

Route 301 Slope Repair

Route 301 southbound near Route 616 (Washington Mill Road) has been reduced to one lane in King George County for motorist safety due to the failure of an adjacent slope. An emergency repair is underway. The lane is anticipated to reopen in fall 2021.

 

King William County

 

Route 360 and Route 662 (Sharon Road) Park & Ride Commuter Lot

The Park & Ride commuter lot near the intersection of Route 360 and Sharon Road is closed through late November 2021 for a construction project to improve the lot. Lancaster County

 

Merry Point Ferry

A planned maintenance project to clean and paint the Merry Point Ferry vessel will start on Tuesday, Sept. 7, after the Labor Day holiday. The planned 45-day maintenance project will temporarily suspend ferry service through early November. The vessel is painted every five years as part of its routine upkeep.

 

Middlesex County

 

Route 625 (Barrick’s Mill Road) Bridge Replacement

A portion of Barrick’s Mill Road is closed to traffic at Mill Creek through September 2021 while crews replace the existing bridge over Barrick’s Mill Creek. Drivers on Barrick’s Mill Road will be detoured around the 24-hour road closure using the following routes:

 

  • Route 625 (Barrick’s Pond Road)
  • Route 626 (Wake Road)
  • Route 624 (Regent Road)

 

Richmond County

 

Route 637 (County Bridge Road)

County Bridge Road is closed to through traffic at the bridge over Cat Point Creek due to damage following heavy rain and flooding on June 11. A timeline to restore and reopen the road is still under development.

 

Stafford County

 

Route 1 at Potomac Creek

Construction is underway to replace the Route 1 bridge over Potomac Creek in Stafford County. Route 1 will continue to have four travel lanes open during the project, with only periodic single lane closures required. The new bridge will be complete in July 2022.

 

Route 3 Business Bridge Rehabilitation

A bridge rehabilitation project is underway on Route 3 Business eastbound over the CSX railroad tracks, between Cool Springs Road and Chatham Heights Road. A single lane is closed continuously on weekdays, beginning on Mondays at 6 a.m. through 8 p.m. Fridays. All lanes are open on weekends. This week, the closure will begin at noon Tuesday, Sept. 7, due to the Labor Day holiday. The weekday lane closure is anticipated to be required through January 2022.

 

Spotsylvania County

 

Route 17 Overpass Replacement and Widening

Construction started in December 2020 on a project to replace the existing two-lane interstate overpass on Route 17 with a four-lane bridge. Route 17 will be widened to four travel lanes to just east of the Hospital Boulevard/Germanna Point Drive intersection. Sidewalk, a shared-use path, and pedestrian crossing equipment will be added as part of the project. Improvements will be completed in Feb. 2024.

 

Town of West Point and New Kent County

 

Route 30/33 (Eltham Bridge)

Eastbound single lane closure on Eltham Bridge, with work zone barrier. Single lane closure is in place. Crews are identifying locations where a future project will repair grout on the bridge.

 

Westmoreland County

 

Route 3 Passing Lanes

Construction began Jan. 4 on a project to build eastbound and westbound passing lanes over a 1.5-mile segment of Route 3. When work is complete, Route 3 will become a four-lane undivided road from north of Route 639 (Winter Harbor Road) to east of Route 624 (Longwood Road), with new turn lanes at key intersections. The project will be complete in late Dec. 2021.
