From Stafford Sheriff’s Office:
A Stafford man was arrested Tuesday night after shoplifting at a retail store and being unable to outrun a patrol car on foot.
On November 2 at 6:32 p.m. deputies responded to the Best Buy at 1455 Stafford Market Place for the report of a larceny. The investigation revealed the suspect entered the store and went directly to the laptop section. The suspect removed the wiring from two laptops on the display shelf, sounding an alarm. The suspect proceeded to place the laptops in his backpack and flee the store.
A witness observed the activity and followed the suspect out of the store. The witness contacted the Emergency Communications Center, providing updates on the suspects path away from the crime scene.
Deputy A.J. Deasy was on scene in seconds of the call and encountered the suspect at the intersection of Garrisonville Road and Stafford Marketplace. Deputy Deasy ordered the suspect to stop, but he fled on foot toward Salisbury Drive. Deputy Deasy was able to conserve his energy by following the suspect in his patrol car, while the suspect ran to the rear of the Holiday Inn. At this point, Deputy Deasy exited his patrol car and after a short foot chase, the suspect surrendered.
The suspect has been identified as Ibrahim Kamara, 24. The two stolen laptops valued at over $2,700 were recovered from Kamara’s backpack. Kamara was charged with grand larceny, shoplifting and intoxicated in public. He was held without bond at the Rappahannock Regional Jail.
