City roads update

by | Jan 16, 2022 | Weather

From the City of Fredericksburg:

Winter Storm Izzy Impacts – Update #2 – January 16, 2022 at 6pm: Our Public Works road crews began salting and sanding the primary and secondary roads, right after the snow started falling around noon. They are now focusing their efforts on plowing and treating the primary roadways. All roadways will continue to be dangerous for travel as the snow has now turned to freezing rain and sleet, causing icing. We are asking for your continued assistance to please stay off the roads the rest of the night and into early tomorrow. VDOT crews are also plowing and treating the major regional roadways including I-95 and Route 1.
The snow has now turned over to sleet and freezing rain in the Fredericksburg region, and this storm is still showing some uncertainty with its exact path. Precipitation may ease at times but may ramp back up quickly, overnight.
There will be periods of high wind forecasted to gust 30-40mph this evening and throughout most of Monday. This may cause downed tree limbs and loss of power. If you need to report a tree that has come down or a large limb that has come down, please call 540-684-9146. If that line is busy or there is no answer, please call 540-373-3122. If the tree has caused significant damage to a structure or has caused injury to someone, please call 911. This pertains to trees or limbs that may come down during the current winter storm and not for debris removal that resulted from the January 3 storm.
City crews will continue storm debris cleanup from the January 3 storm, in the coming week, as the melting allows. Dominion Energy has been staging mobilized crews in the area to begin restoring any outages, if they occur, as soon as they can.
During times of severe weather, our 911 center is often inundated with non-life threatening calls regarding utilities. Please keep the following numbers close by to contact your appropriate utility company if you have a need for them during the storm, as this will help ease the burden on our 911 Dispatchers to allow them to process emergency calls for the City:
• Columbia Gas: 800-544-5606
• Dominion Power: 866-366-4357
• Verizon Phone and FiOS: 800-837-4966
• Comcast Cable: 800-934-6489
• Cox Cable: 844-232-9646
Our Fire Department has opened a virtual Emergency Operations Center that will be maintained 24/7 by storm team staff until the storm and cleanup is complete.
City offices are closed tomorrow for the Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday.
