Kunta Kinte’s ‘Roots’ in Spotsylvania to be discussed Tuesday at Germanna virtual event

by | Mar 21, 2022 | Events, Germanna

From Germanna Community College:

In recent years, Kendrick Lamar and Missy Elliott have written hip-hop songs referencing the legendary slave Kunta Kinte, who remains a symbol of defiance to many.  In 2019, embattled quarterback Colin Kaepernick, who lost his NFL job after kneeling during the National Anthem, wore a Kunta Kinte tee shirt to a tryout for several teams.
Chris Haley, research director for the legacy of slavery in Maryland at the Maryland State Archives, will be one of the guests for Germanna’s 6:30 p.m., March 22, 2022, virtual Community Conversation discussion about Kunta Kinte’s “Roots” in Spotsylvania County. The online discussion is free and open to the public.
