From the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office:

The suspect in a murder last year on International Parkway pled guilty in Stafford County Circuit Court on Monday to second-degree murder.
On January 17, 2021 deputies responded to the Tuckahoe Motorcycle Club on International Parkway for a shooting. The investigation revealed George Batts, 40, of North Carolina had shot the victim, Ely Grimes, 47, of Stafford, several times.
As deputies attempted to provide first aid to Grimes and take Batts into custody, Batts refused to drop the handgun. Batts raised the handgun toward deputies and was subsequently shot. Contrary to information presented in court yesterday, the handgun Batts brandished at law enforcement was loaded with a round in the chamber and several in the magazine.
Despite the first aid efforts of deputies and medics, Grimes succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. Deputies and medics also provided first aid to Batts, and he survived to face trial for the murder.
Batts will be sentenced on October 16th and faces a maximum of 17 years in prison.
