Caroline man charged with second degree murder in Spotsylvania

From the Spotsylvania Sheriff’s Office:
On April 30 at approximately 11:21 PM, Spotsylvania County 911 Center received a report of a shooting in the 10100 block of Patriot Highway in the Cosner Corner area. Deputies arrived and found a 35-year-old Spotsylvania man suffering from a multiple gunshot wounds to the upper body. Despite life saving measures, the male succumbed to his injuries while on scene.
The victim was identified as Shawn D. Hastings. Witnesses provided Deputies with a description of the suspect and his vehicle that left the scene. With the assistance of Caroline County Sheriff’s Office and Virginia State Police, the suspect identified as Jesse Dean Beebout, 34-years of age from Caroline County was taken into custody by Spotsylvania Detectives early Sunday morning at his residence in the Lake Land’Or community.
During the arrest a firearm was recovered and it appeared that the suspect suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound to his hand during the shooting incident. Detectives learned that the shooting was a result of a dispute that started inside a local restaurant. According to witnesses, Mr. Hastings was shot in the parking lot after he exited the restaurant.
Jesse Dean Beebout was arrested for 2nd Degree Murder and use of a firearm while committing a felony. Mr. Beebout is in police custody being treated at a local hospital for his injuries. Once he is released he will be transported to the Rappahannock Regional Jail under no bond.
