I-95 Southbound
Exit 130 (Route 3) to Exit 118 (Thornburg)
Sunday – Thursday, 9 p.m. – 5 a.m. Overnight lane closures for mobile operation to replace lenses in pavement markers.
I-95 Northbound
Exit 118 (Thornburg) to Exit 126 (Spotsylvania)
Sunday – Thursday, 9 p.m. – 5 a.m. Overnight lane closures for mobile operation to replace lenses in pavement markers.
Express Lanes
Exit 148 (Quantico) to Exit 143 (Garrisonville)
Monday – Thursday, 8 p.m. – 5 a.m. Single lane closure on the Express Lanes between the interchanges. Between 10 p.m. and 4 a.m., crews will have intermittent full traffic stops on the express lanes facility up to 30 minutes at a time.
Winter Storm Debris Cleanup Update
Cleanup of downed trees and debris from the Jan. 3 winter storm continues along primary and secondary roads in Caroline, King George, Spotsylvania and Stafford counties.
VDOT estimates around 1.5 million cubic yards of debris will be gathered by the end of the cleanup operation in Fredericksburg District, which is expected to continue into mid-August 2022.
Around 25 crews are working seven days a week to remove debris. Motorists should be alert to mobile work zones in the affected counties, with lane closures as needed. Crews are using heavy, slow-moving construction equipment to gather debris along road shoulders and medians. Read the release here.
Stafford County
Route 1
Monday, 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. Single lane closure near Hospital Center Boulevard and South Campus Boulevard for permit work.
Thursday, 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. Single lane closure near Eskimo Hill Road and Rowser Road for permit work.
Route 610 (Garrisonville Road)
Sunday – Monday, 8 p.m. –  5 a.m. Traffic signal work at the Garrisonville Road and Center Street intersection. Flaggers and/or law enforcement will direct drivers at the intersection.
Enon Road
Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. –  7 p.m. Guardrail repair. Flagging crew will alternate, one-way traffic through the work zone on Enon Road near Pine View Road.
Eskimo Hill Road
Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Crews will perform bridge maintenance repairs between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. with one-way, alternating traffic. Road resurfacing will also be underway.
Ferry Road
Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. –  7 p.m. A flagging crew will alternate, one-way traffic through the work zone to apply pavement markings on Ferry Road between Route 3 and Town and Country Drive.
Forbes Street
Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. –  7 p.m. Guardrail repair. Flagging crew will alternate, one-way traffic through the work zone on Forbes Street near Morton Road.
Fritters Lane
Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. –  7 p.m. Guardrail repair. Flagging crew will alternate, one-way traffic through the work zone on Fritters Lane near Barrett Heights Road.
Hartwood Road
Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. –  7 p.m. Flagging crew will alternate, one-way traffic through the work zone to apply pavement markings on Hartwood Road near Hartwood Church Road and Spotted Tavern Road.
Heflin Road
Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. –  7 p.m. Guardrail repair. Flagging crew will alternate, one-way traffic through the work zone on Heflin Road near Mill Lane.

Monday – Thursday, 9 p.m. – 7 a.m. Single lane closure for guardrail repair.
Route 3 Westbound at Brock Road
Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Single lane closure for guardrail repair.
Harrison Road
Sunday – Tuesday, 7 p.m. – 6 a.m. and Monday – Wednesday, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. Alternating lane closures for milling and paving between Leavells Road and Gordon Road.
Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Guardrail repair. A flagging crew will alternate, one-way traffic on Harrison Road near the I-95 overpass and Route 1.
Massaponax Church Road
Monday – Thursday, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. Mobile work zone on Massasponax Church Road between Route 1 and Route 17 for installation of pavement markers.
Mine Road
Monday – Thursday, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Lane closure for permit work connected with private development on Mine Road between Norfolk Way and Lansdowne Road.
Salem Church Road at Harrison Road
Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Single lane closure for guardrail repair.
Old Plank Road
Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. Flagging when needed for construction to build an offset turn lane along westbound Old Plank Road at Ashleigh Park Boulevard to improve safety.
Caroline County
Route 1 Northbound and Southbound
Monday – Friday, 6 a.m. –  9 p.m. Survey and pipe work. Single lane closures on Route 1 between Ladysmith Road and Collins Boulevard.
Route 30 Eastbound and Westbound
Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Single lane closure for guardrail repair on Route 30 near Route 725 and Rout e652. A flagging crew will alternate, one-way traffic through the work zone.
Ladysmith Road
Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Mobile work zone to allow crews to apply pavement markings on Ladysmith Road between the bridge over I-95 and Balty Road. Work zone for pipe work on Ladysmith Road between Route 1 and Allen Street also during this time.
Gloucester County
Route 607 (Fletcher Road)
Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Surface treatment. A flagging crew will alternate one-way traffic near the mobile work zone.
King George County
Route 205 (Ridge Road)
Tuesday – Friday, 7 p.m. – 5 a.m. Single lane closure for milling and paving between Route 3 and Route 301. A flagging crew will direct one-way alternating traffic in the work zone.
Route 218 (Caledon Road)
Thursday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Surface treatment. Mobile work zone with flagging to alternate, one-way traffic near Route 301 and Machodoc Circle.
Route 301 Northbound
Sunday – Thursday, 7 p.m. – 5 a.m. Lane closures for milling and paving on Route 301 northbound between Route 218 and Roseland Road.
Route 301 Southbound

Friday, 7 a.m. – 5 p.m. Surface treatment. Mobile work zone with one-way, alternating traffic near Indian Valley Road.

Wednesday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Paving. Flagging crew will alternate, one-way traffic on Leedstown Road between Route 3 and Parrish Lane.
Route 759 (Carmel Road)
Friday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Paving. Flagging crew will alternate, one-way traffic on Carmel Road near Route 202 (Cople Highway).
Additional Projects in Fredericksburg District
Caroline County
Route 639 (Ladysmith Road) Emergency Pipe Repair
Route 639 (Ladysmith Road) is closed to through traffic between Route 638 (S. River Road) and Route 764 (Scott’s Lane) to repair a large drainage pipe over May’s Run. Weather permitting, a detour will be in place for approximately six weeks while construction is underway, until late June 2022. Motorists are encouraged to follow the posted detour route:

  • Route 207 (Rogers Clark Boulevard)
Route 639 (Ladysmith Road) Widening
Construction is underway to widen Route 639 (Ladysmith Road) to four travel lanes between I-95 and just west of Route 1. A new raised median will separate eastbound and westbound travel lanes to allow for improved movement through the corridor. Additional left and right turn lanes will be built on Ladysmith Road at the Route 1 intersection A shared use path, sidewalks, crosswalks, and pedestrian crossing equipment will be installed. The project is expected to be complete in May 2024.
Route 639 (Ladysmith Road) and Route 738 (Partlow Road/Anderson Mill Road)
Construction is underway to improve safety at the Route 639 (Ladysmith Road) and Route 738 (Partlow Road/Anderson Mill Road) intersection in the Chilesburg area of Caroline County. The project will improve sight distance and realign and flatten a curve at the intersection. Project completion is expected in August 2022.
Route 652 (Cool Water Drive) over Polecat Creek
Cool Water Drive was closed to through traffic in March 2022 at the bridge over Polecat Creek, and will remain closed for a bridge replacement project. Significant deterioration was discovered in key bridge elements during a bridge inspection and VDOT closed the bridge for motorist safety. Motorists should follow signs posted along the recommended detour route. Preliminary engineering is underway on a project to replace the bridge, and work will be accelerated. The new bridge is estimated to open to traffic in September 2023.
Ladysmith Safety Rest Area, I-95 Southbound
Construction is underway to expand the number of parking spaces for trucks and larger commercial vehicles at the Ladysmith Safety Area in Caroline County on I-95 southbound. The rest area remains open to travelers, and existing parking remains largely available. However, the existing truck and oversize vehicle parking area will be closed at this rest area on April 19-29. Construction is anticipated to be complete in June 2022.
King and Queen County
Route 631 (Poor House Lane) Bridge Replacement Project
Poor House Lane is closed between Route 14 (The Trail) and Route 630 (DeShazo Road) to replace the bridge over Market Swamp. Detour will be in place through late June 2022. Signs will be posted along the recommended detour route, which is approximately nine miles:

King George County
A single northbound and southbound lane are closed on Route 301 between the weigh station and the Nice-Middleton Bridge for a Maryland Transportation Authority project to replace the bridge over the Potomac River and realign Route 301 at the bridge approach.
Richmond County
Route 637 (County Bridge Road)
County Bridge Road is closed to through traffic at the bridge over Cat Point Creek due to damage following heavy rain and flooding in summer 2021. The bridge replacement project is in preliminary engineering, with construction starting in fall 2022. The new bridge is anticipated to reopen in summer 2023.
Spotsylvania County
Route 1 and Commonwealth Drive
Be alert for construction activity on Route 1 near the Commonwealth Drive intersection, where work is underway to build a nearly 700-space Park & Ride commuter lot. Be alert for work zone barriers along the shoulders of Route 1, and lanes that are shifted to the east near the Commonwealth Drive intersection. Project completion is anticipated in May 2023.
Route 17 Overpass Replacement and Widening
Construction started in December 2020 on a project to replace the existing two-lane interstate overpass on Route 17 with a four-lane bridge. Route 17 will be widened to four travel lanes to just east of the Hospital Boulevard/Germanna Point Drive intersection. Sidewalk, a shared-use path, and pedestrian crossing equipment will be added as part of the project. Improvements will be completed in Feb. 2024.
Parkview Drive
Parkview Drive is closed to through traffic in the Artillery Ridge subdivision for approximately three months, through mid-July 2022. Parkview Drive will be closed near the Artillery Ridge Road intersection to allow VDOT crews to remove three deteriorated corrugated metal drainage pipes under the road. They will be replaced with concrete drainage pipes. Crews will be working on Mondays-Thursdays, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Town of West Point and New Kent County
Route 30/33 (Eltham Bridge)
Westbound single lane closure on Eltham Bridge, with work zone barrier. This lane closure is anticipated to remain in place through mid-June 2022. Crews are identifying locations where a future project will repair post-tensioned bridge girders.
