The Stafford Sheriff’s Office says a repeat DUI offender was arrested after a serious accident in North Stafford Sunday.
A  deputy responded to a multi-vehicle accident in the 3600 block of U.S. 1. Her investigation revealed  39-year old Kathleen Fernandez of Stafford was in a blue Toyota Sienna turning from northbound U.S. 1 into the Hidden Valley 7-Eleven. Fernandez failed to yield to southbound traffic and struck a black sedan. The impact forced the sedan into a southbound blue pickup truck.
There were several injuries at the scene, but none reported as life-threatening. Deputy Warnick discovered Fernandez was intoxicated and had a juvenile passenger in the vehicle.
Fernandez was arrested and charged with DUI second offense in five years with a blood alcohol content over .20, child neglect and failure to yield. She was held at the Rappahannock Regional Jail on a $5,000 bond. The juvenile was turned over to a responsible adult and Child Protective Services was notified.
