CSX rail repair work to close several roads in Caroline

Upcoming CSX railroad maintenance will require Route 605 (Paige Road) and Route 606 (Stonewall Jackson Road) in Caroline County to temporarily close at rail crossings for several days.

Both roads will be closed to through traffic over four consecutive days, with a posted detour. Work is scheduled to to occur during separate weeks in late September and early October.

CSX will install new timber to improve the road crossings of the railroad tracks.

Work has been scheduled weather permitting. Travelers can find real-time updates on each road’s status on 511Virginia.

Tuesday, Sept. 27 –  Friday, Sept. 30

Paige Road will be closed to through traffic at the railroad crossing located between the Mattaponi River bridge and Roy Brooks Lane.

Signs will be posted to guide motorists along the recommended detour:

  • Route 2
  • Route 609 (Woodslane Road)
  • Route 626 (Woodford Road)
  • Route 638 (S. River Road)

Tuesday, Oct. 4 – Friday, Oct. 7

Stonewall Jackson Road will be closed to through traffic at the railroad crossing between the road’s eastern and western intersections with (Route 607) Guinea Station Road.

Signs will be posted to guide motorists along the recommended detour:

  • Route 609 (Macedonia Road)
  • Route 660 (Claiborne Crossing Road)
  • Route 607 (Guinea Station Road)
