Virginia State Parks fall foliage report
Fall Foliage Report for Virginia State Parks
Welcome to our fall foliage report for 2022.
Oct. 6, 2022. Across the Commonwealth, the first foliage changes are underway, starting slowly but a bit ahead of what is considered the usual schedule. Additionally, most parts of the state felt some aftereffects of Hurricane Ian’s passage last weekend, which brought rain and wind that made some leaves fall from branches before they’d even turned. In the far western parts of the state, dogwoods and maples are revealing some red and orange, while tulip poplars in the west and central regions are bringing the yellow. Still, much of central Virginia and the coastal areas remain green at this early point in fall.
This fall season, find new ways to connect with nature and get outdoors for some fresh air to take a hike, bike ride or even birdwatch. Whatever adventure you decide on, be sure to share your Virginia State Park photos on social media by using the hashtag #VaStateParks and #FallinVirginia to be part of the online conversation.
