Broadband meeting in Stafford this Thursday night

by | Nov 9, 2022 | Technology

Interested members of the public are invited to attend a Stafford Telecommunications Commission meeting this Thursday, November 10, to hear more about Stafford’s newest broadband initiative. Comcast Government Representative Nathan Daugherty will be present to give an update on Stafford’s partnership with Comcast to extend broadband into Rock Hill and Hartwood. The effort is made possible by a grant through the Commonwealth of Virginia Telecommunications Initiative (VATI).

This expansion will bring Comcast’s fast, reliable and fiber-rich network along with its innovative suite of Xfinity products and services, including residential broadband speeds up to 1.2 gigabits per second (Gbps), to more than 650 homes in Stafford County in the Rock Hill and Hartwood districts.

Construction is currently underway and the entire project is expected to be completed by the end of 2023. Residents can check Welcome2Xfinity.com to see if their address is included in the expansion project. Residents who Comcast currently serves can visit Xfinity.com or call 1-800-XFINITY to inquire about service or learn more about the federal government’s Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP), which provides eligible households with up to $30/month toward their Internet and mobile service ($75/month on Tribal lands). The credit can be applied to any tier of Xfinity Internet service, including Internet Essentials, along with mobile service through Xfinity Mobile.

The Telecommunications Commission meets on November 10 at 7:00 p.m. in the Board Chambers of the George L. Gordon, Jr., Government Center, 1300 Courthouse Road, Stafford, VA 22554.
