VDOT says the new I-95 northbound bridge over the Rappahannock River between Fredericksburg and Stafford is ready to open. It is a major project milestone as work continues to finish construction on the entire project by spring 2024.
Expect heavy I-95 northbound traffic from 5 p.m. Monday, Dec. 5 to 4:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 7 as we move traffic onto the new bridge over nearly 36 hours.
VDOT asking through travelers to use I-95 northbound exit 104 (Carmel Church) in Caroline and use Route 207 eastbound and Route 301 northbound as an alternate route during these times. And for local traffic to please stay away to avoid delay.
