Full traffic stops planned overnight for express lanes work

by | Dec 12, 2022 | Traffic

Crews with the 95 Express Lanes Fredericksburg Extension project have planned full traffic stops overnight on Interstate 95 northbound this week.
The full stops are needed as construction continues on the future flyover ramp bridge north of the exit 133 (Route 17) interchange.
Starting at 10 p.m. tonight, Dec. 12 and each evening this week, I-95 northbound will be reduced to one lane near exit 133 to exit 136 (Centreport Parkway) in Stafford County.
Starting tomorrow, Dec. 13 through through early Friday, Dec. 16, crews will stop all I-95 northbound traffic up to 30 minutes at a time between midnight and 3 a.m.
Currently, the 10-mile extension of the Express Lanes is under construction just south of exit 143 (Route 610) to exit 133.
As part of the project, crews are building three new access points to the extended Express Lanes. Travelers will be able to access the Express Lanes at exit 148 (Quantico), exit 140 (Courthouse Road) and exit 133 when the 95 Express Lanes Fredericksburg Extension opens to traffic in late 2023.
