In late November, the Caroline County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 9-1-1 call for the report of an armed robbery of a residence in Sparta.   The 69-year-old victim reported that around 4 a.m., two masked and armed men broke into his home, assaulted him, held him at gunpoint, then stole firearms, collector coins, and money from the residence.  After obtaining over 25 search warrants and court orders for various types of records and video footage, the Caroline Sheriff’s Office identified two suspects.
These suspects were believed to reside in Henrico County and Prince Edward County and frequently visited in Chesterfield.  The Caroline Sheriff’s Office says with the assistance of the Chesterfield County Police Department, the Henrico County Police Department, the Virginia State Police and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Sgt. Sadler began in intensive investigation into these two suspects, including hundreds of hours of surveillance and evidence gathering.
The suspects were identified as 25-year-old Dashawn Hunter, of Prince Edward County, and 35 year-old Alester Morgan of Henrico County. As a result of Sergeant Sadler’s efforts, and with the assistance of the Virginia State Police and the Chesterfield County Police, searches were conducted at a residence in Chesterfield County and a residence in Prince Edward County, on January 18.  During these search warrants, investigators seized a firearm and collector coins believed to have been stolen from the victim in this case.
Following the search warrants, and an extensive manhunt, Dashawn Hunter was arrested by the Henrico County Police Department. Hunter was transported to the Henrico County Jail where he was held without bond on the charges of armed robbery, breaking and entering, using a firearm in the commission of a robbery, and possessing a firearm as a convicted felon. On January 19, Caroline investigators, with the assistance of the United States Marshals Service, arrested Alester Morgan in Charlottesville.  Morgan was transported to the Albemarle County Jail, where he was held without bond. Morgan is charged with armed robbery, breaking and entering, using a firearm in the commission of a robbery, and possessing a firearm as a convicted felon.
Caroline County Sheriff, Scott Moser said “I am very thankful for the assistance the Sheriff’s Office received from all of the assisting police agencies. Without their assistance, this investigation would not be concluded. I am also very proud of the incredible work of Sergeant Sadler. His dedication to the safety of the citizens of Caroline County led to the arrests in this case. Lastly, thank you to those citizens and businesses that assisted this investigation. Together, we will continue to strengthen our community”.
