From the Caroline County Sheriff’s Office:
On March 19, 2023, Deputy J. Daily and Deputy S. Mullane responded to a report of a trespasser in the Woodford area of Caroline County. The caller reported that someone suspiciously parked a vehicle behind an abandoned residence on Pepmeier Hill Road, and was believed to be metal detecting on the property. Deputy Daily and Deputy Mullane arrived at the residence and found a man sitting in the vehicle described by the caller.
The man told deputies he did not have any identification with him, however, the alert deputies had already spotted a driver’s license lying on the center console in the vehicle, and a shotgun lying on the passenger floorboard. Deputies obtained the driver’s license, and identified the man as 28 year-old Anthony Furrow, of Spotsylvania County. They then discovered Furrow had an outstanding arrest warrant in Spotsylvania County for possession of methamphetamine. Deputies placed Furrow under arrest and subsequently found what is believed to be heroin and methamphetamine in his wallet, and a handgun in his waistband.
Furrow reportedly told deputies he was familiar with the property through a former owner and was relic hunting using a metal detector. Deputies found copper tubing, scrap metal, various tools, and a family photograph in an antique picture frame in Furrow’s vehicle, none of which was found to come from the property where he was arrested. Furrow’s vehicle was towed away from the property and Furrow was charged with possession of heroin, possession of methamphetamine, and possessing a firearm while possessing heroin and methamphetamine. He was transported to the Pamunkey Regional Jail where he was held without bond.
On March 22, 2023, Deputy D. Taylor responded to the Rappahannock Academy area of Caroline County for the report of a residential burglary. Firearms, a lawnmower, lawn tools, and other items were reported stolen. Deputy J. Daily and Deputy S. Mullane heard the burglary call and contacted Deputy Taylor to gain information about what was stolen. During this conversation, they learned that an old family photo was taken.
After hearing this, Deputy Daily and Deputy Mullane drove to where Furrow’s vehicle was towed, and confirmed with the burglary victim that the family photo in Furrow’s vehicle was stolen from their home. Forensic Investigators responded to the scene of the burglary and to where Furrow’s vehicle was stored, where they found evidence leading them to believe that Furrow may have had an accomplice.
On March 23, 2023, investigators and deputies went to a residence in the Ruther Glen area of Caroline County, attempting to gain further evidence. While at this residence, investigators found an enclosed trailer reported stolen from Spotsylvania County, and a Kubota side-by-side UTV reported stolen from King George County. Both of these items were seized to be returned to their rightful owners.
Investigators also seized a Chevrolet truck and a Chevrolet Tahoe believed to have been used during the burglary and other crimes. As a result of the new evidence, investigators obtained arrest warrants for 25 year-old Jesse Albert, of Woodford, for breaking and entering and grand larceny of a firearm. Albert is believed to be aware of these charges and is currently evading capture. Anyone with any information on Albert’s whereabouts, is asked to call Sergeant B. Their observations, quick thinking, and teamwork resulted in solving this, and possibly many other cases. CCSO investigators are currently working with various other jurisdictions to determine if Furrow and/or Albert are connected to additional crimes in the region. I am also very thankful for the concerned citizen who made the call to alert us about the suspicious situation that led to this arrest. Community cooperation and teamwork is vital in keeping Caroline County safe, and this citizen’s actions is a perfect example of that teamwork.
