Fredericksburg, VA – Traveling Players Ensemble performs a family-friendly, improvised twist on the fairytale Rumpelstiltskin.
In this original adaptation of the classic fairytale, a father’s careless bragging lands his daughter in trouble, and she has to rely on the help of a mysterious little man, along with a cast of oddball characters in this classic tale of spinning, names, and unwise promises.
Traveling Players Ensemble’s mission is to bring great theatre into the great outdoors. The company has been invited to perform at the Kennedy Center’s Millennium Stage, Colonial Williamsburg, Shenandoah National Park, Reston’s Multicultural Festival, and the International Children’s Festival at Wolf Trap.
This performance features one of the company’s most advanced ensembles, the Commedia Troupe, which studies the traditional Italian theatre style “Commedia dell’Arte,” combining outrageous physical comedy and improvisation, where the show is different every time. Following four weeks of intensive rehearsal, the Troupe embarks on a weeklong performance tour of Northern Virginia, the Shenandoah Valley, and beyond.
Now in its seventeenth year, Traveling Players Ensemble was selected as one of 25 model summer arts programs by the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA).
Traveling Players is supported in part by the Arts Council of Fairfax County, the Virginia Commission for the Arts, and the National Endowment for the Arts. The company has been honored as one of the best community-based non-profits in the DC Metropolitan area in the Greater Washington Catalogue for Philanthropy.
Traveling Players Ensemble is in residence at The Madeira School in McLean, VA.
Throughout the school year, the company teaches weekend classes in classical acting, improvisation, mask, and movement.
Running time 75 minutes. Free and open to the public. Appropriate for children age 7 and up.
