VDOT hot spots in Fredericksburg, Stafford, Spotsylvania, Caroline, and King George for March 26 – April 1, 2017.

City of Fredericksburg
Interstate 95 Southbound
(New) Wednesday ˗˗ Thursday, 9:30 p.m. ˗˗ 5 a.m. Two lanes will be closed on I-95 southbound at mile marker 131 to allow crews to clean and stain the new Fall Hill Avenue overpass. A single lane will be closed at 9:30 p.m. followed by a double lane closure at 10 p.m. All lanes will be open to traffic by 5 a.m. each day.

Route 1 Northbound
(New) Sunday – Thursday, 6 p.m. ˗˗ 6 a.m. A single lane on Route 1 northbound near Mary Washington Boulevard will be blocked for a milling operation. Virginia State Police will assist with traffic control at the intersection. Stay alert to crews and construction equipment. Expect delays through the work zone.

Route 1 Southbound
(New) Sunday ˗˗ Tuesday, 6 p.m. ˗˗ 6 a.m. A single lane on Route 1 southbound near Mary Washington Boulevard will be blocked to allow crews to begin milling the asphalt. Virginia State Police will assist with traffic control. Expect delays through the work zone.

Fall Hill Avenue
Monday − Thursday, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. and Friday, 9 a.m. – noon. Motorists should expect intermittent lane closures and flagging operations on Fall Hill Avenue near Gordon W. Shelton Boulevard going towards the new traffic circle near the Rappahannock Canal. Crews will begin milling the asphalt. Flaggers will direct motorists through the work zone.

Mary Washington Boulevard
Monday − Thursday, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. and Friday, 9 a.m. – noon. Motorists should expect intermittent lane closures between Hospital Drive and Sam Perry Boulevard as part of the Fall Hill Avenue widening project. Motorists should stay alert for ongoing work in the median with crews working to install new curb and paving.

Stafford County
Interstate 95 Northbound
(New) Monday ˗˗ Friday, 9:30 a.m. ˗˗ 3:30 p.m. A single lane will be closed between mile marker 141 and mile marker 142 just a mile shy from Exit 143 (Route 610/Garrisonville Road). Crews will install overhead sign foundations as part of the I-95 Express Lanes Southern Terminus extension.

Interstate 95 Southbound
(New) Tuesday ˗˗ Thursday, 9 a.m. ˗˗ 2 p.m. and Friday, 9 a.m. ˗˗ noon. A single left lane and left shoulder on I-95 southbound will be blocked from mile marker 138 to mile marker 134 which is near Exit 136 (Centreport Parkway) for a mobile work zone. A crew will be taking soil samples, as part of the I-95 as part of the I-95/Courthouse Interchange Relocation and widening project.

Interstate 95 Northbound
(New) Tuesday ˗˗ Thursday, 9 a.m. ˗˗ 2 p.m. and Friday, 9 a.m. ˗˗ noon. A single left lane and left shoulder on I-95 northbound will be blocked from mile marker 139 to mile marker 141 just pas Exit 140 (Route 630/Courthouse Road) for a mobile work zone. A crew will be taking soil samples, as part of the I-95/Courthouse Interchange Relocation and widening project.

Route 1
(Update) Wednesday ˗˗ Friday, 7 p.m. ˗˗ 5 a.m. Crews will remove jersey barriers, eradicate temporary striping and restore original striping on Route 1 near Coachman Circle. Crews will remove the temporary work zone installed as part of construction of the new Aquia Hilton Extended Stay Hotel Home2Suites. Crews will open the continuous center lane for left turns onto Coachman Circle. Motorists should anticipate single lane closures on southbound Route 1 overnight between the two entrances to Coachman Circle.

Route 610 (Garrisonville Road) at Onville Road
Monday – Thursday 8 p.m. – 5:00 a.m., and Friday, 8 p.m. – 7 a.m. Double lane closures on Garrisonville Road, eastbound and westbound, for paving and final construction activities at the Onville Road intersection. Lane closures will be mobile, and the traffic pattern will shift as work progresses.

Route 610
Sunday ˗˗ Thursday, 9 p.m. ˗˗ 6 a.m. Motorists can expect alternating single lane closures overnight on Route 610 (Garrisonville Road) from Shenandoah Lane to Travis Lane. Crews will be conducting pipe work to install a new drainage system. This work is in regards to the Stafford County widening of Garrisonville Road.

Chatham Bridge
(Update) Sunday ˗˗ Thursday, 9 p.m. ˗˗ 6 a.m. Traffic will be reduced to one westbound lane on the Chatham Bridge over the Rappahannock River. Crews will continue to work to improve sidewalks and railings on the bridge between Stafford County and the city of Fredericksburg. Pedestrian access may be restricted to one side of the bridge overnights when crews are working.

Routine Maintenance
Monday − Friday, 6 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Stay alert for mobile lane closures. Crews will perform routine maintenance activities at the following locations:

Route 1 (Jefferson Davis Highway) near Telegraph Road ˗˗ ditch cleaning
Route 602 (Chapel Green Road) ˗˗ brush removal
Route 606 (Ferry Road) ˗˗ brush removal
Route 607 (Cool Springs Road) ˗˗ pothole patching
Route 642 (Barrett Heights Road) ˗˗ shoulder repairs, ditch cleaning

Spotsylvania County
Route 1 and Route 632 (Hickory Ridge Road)
(New) Monday ˗˗ Thursday, 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. Traffic will be down to one lane on Route 1 (Jefferson Davis Highway) in both directions near Route 632 (Hickory Ridge Road) as crews work to improve the intersection with clearing and grubbing operations. Crews are working to add and extend turn lanes. There will be intermittent, full traffic stoppages at the intersection, up to 10 minutes, while crews work in the middle of the intersection. The Spotsylvania Sheriff’s Office will assist with traffic control through the work zone.

Route 208
(New) Tuesday, 9 a.m. ˗˗ 4 p.m. Motorists should expect brief delays and flagging operations on Route 208 (Courthouse Road) for guardrail repair near Route 606 (Mudd Tavern Road), Route 639 (Partlow Road) and Route 793.

Route 618
(Update) Monday ˗˗ Friday, 7 a.m. ˗˗ 7 p.m. Drivers should expect delays on Route 618 (River Road) between Route 3 (Plank Road) and Route 639 (Bragg Road) for pavement repair. Flaggers and a pilot truck will direct motorists through the work zone, one lane at a time.

Route 620 (Harrison Road)
(Update) Sunday, 3 a.m. ˗˗ 10 p.m. A small section of Route 620 (Harrison Road) will be closed between Route 1 and Lafayette Boulevard as crews relocate worker and sewer lines. Posted message boards will direct motorists to use Route 1324 (Lassen Lane) as the recommended detour route. This work is part of the project to build new turn lanes and improve the Route 1 and Harrison Road intersection

Monday − Friday, 6 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Stay alert for mobile lane closures. Crews will perform routine maintenance activities at the following locations:

Route 656 (Towles Mill Road) ˗˗ brush removal

Route 702 (Curtis Road) ˗˗ maintenance work

Caroline County
Interstate 95 Southbound
(New) Thursday, 9:30 a.m. ˗˗ 5 p.m. A single right lane and right shoulder will be blocked on I-95 southbound near mile marker 109 which is just passed Exit 110 (Route 639/Ladysmith) for maintenance work.

Route 17
(New) Thursday, 9 a.m. ˗˗ 4 p.m. Traffic will be down to one lane on Route 17 northbound near Waterman’s Boulevard for guardrail repair. Expect brief delays through the work zone.

Route 301
(New) Thursday ˗˗ Friday, 7 a.m. ˗˗ 7 p.m. Expect alternating lane closures and brief delays on Route 301 (A.P. Hill Boulevard) southbound between the bridge over Campbell Road and a bridge over Peumansend Creek for removal of snow plow markers. This is approximately a four mile section on Route 301.

Route 17 and Route 301
(New) Wednesday ˗˗ Thursday, 7 p.m. ˗˗ 6 a.m. Expect alternating single lane closures and brief delays at the intersection of Route 17 (Tidewater Trail) and Route 301 (A.P. Hill Boulevard), as crews work to upgrade the traffic signal at the intersection.

Route 301
(New) Thursday, 9 a.m. ˗˗ 4 p.m. Traffic will be down to a single lane on Route 301 northbound approximately three miles south of Route 17 (Tidewater Trail) for guardrail repair. Expect brief delays through the work zone.

Monday − Friday, 6 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Stay alert for mobile lane closures. Crews will perform routine maintenance activities at the following locations:

Route 301 at Rappahannock River
(New) Wednesday ˗˗ Thursday, 6:30 a.m. ˗˗6:30 p.m. Traffic will be down to a single lane on Route 301 northbound and southbound at the bridge over the Rappahannock River for work related to the bridge rehabilitation project. Expect brief delays on the bridge and at the bridge approaches.
