The League of Women Voters of the Fredericksburg Area hosts its Civic Conversations Book Club on Saturday, February 28 from 1:00–3:00 PM at the Howell Library Branch (Room 5). This month’s selection, The Woman Behind the New Deal, explores the life of Frances Perkins and her role in shaping landmark labor and social policies such as Social Security. The discussion will focus on how policy becomes law and how civic engagement influences government decisions. Free and open to the public.

Hearts for Paws- a focus on kindness, empathy, and understanding animal emotions. 

Join the Animal Allies Academy, an engaging program designed for kids ages 6-9 & 10-12 who are eager to learn about life at an animal shelter! Kids enrolled in the Animal Allies Academy will meet on various weekend days once a month from 10:00am-2:00pm. This program will be held at the Fredericksburg SPCA, where your child will get one-on-one interaction with animals! Participants will discover the importance of animal care, shelter etiquette, and responsible pet ownership through hands-on experiences and interactive activities.

Please be sure to confirm the age group you are registering for and that your child falls within that range.

Join us this spring for Germanna’s Community Wellness Festival Series, where health, education, and community come together.

From February through May, each festival offers family-friendly activities, local health and wellness resources, and hands-on education in a positive, supportive environment. Community members can connect with area providers and discover new ways to build healthy habits that last all year.

For those interested in a career in healthcare, the festivals also offer an opportunity to explore Germanna’s in-demand healthcare programs, learn about career pathways, and connect with faculty and staff about degrees and credentials that lead to employment in the region.

Join us for the most exciting wintertime event in Fredericksburg! Saturday, February 28, 2026 Micah Ministries will again host Coldest Night of the Year! CNOY is a 5K fundraising WALK (not a race) during evening hours to raise funds for those experiencing homelessness, hurt, and hunger.

Join us! For the last three years, we have filled the sidewalks of downtown Fredericksburg with people passionate about our mission. We expect even more people this year to join in! Riverfront Park will be FULL on Feb 28 with walkers as we prepare to launch.

This is an easy and FUN way to support Micah Ministries’ work to end homelessness. We will gather at Riverfront Park on Saturday, Feb 28. Check-in begins at 4 PM. We will launch walkers out on the 5K walking course by 5 PM. (There is a one-mile option for those who want to participate but might not be able to do the full 5K.)  The walk ends at the same place where it begins: Riverfront Park. At the end of the walk, hot refreshments are served (hot soup, hot chocolate, and cookies).

Give Me Liberty: Virginia & The Forging of a Nation will explore the unique and essential Virginia people, events, and sites that helped bring liberty and democracy to a nation. Commemorating the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, this exhibit will highlight the complex, diverse, and inspiring Virginia history which is, in fact, America’s story.

Give Me Liberty will provide context for the coming of the Revolution in Virginia and brings visitors into the core of the action from 1774 through 1776, highlighting how the American Revolution was a war, and more than a war.

Give Me Liberty: Virginia & The Forging of a Nation is the signature exhibition of Virginia’s 250th Commission. This exhibition is curated in partnership with the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation (JYF) and presented by VA250, Virginia’s semiquincentennial planning commission. Central Rappahannock Regional Library is honored to host this exhibition with sponsorship from Tour Stafford.

Fredericksburg Main Street will host the opening reception for Women of
Main Street, a first-of-its-kind photo exhibit celebrating women business owners within the Main
Street district, on Friday, March 6th at 5:30 PM in the Visitor Center Exhibit Room, 601 Caroline Street Downtown Fredericksburg.

Presented in honor of Women’s History Month, the exhibit features black-and-white portraits of
women entrepreneurs photographed inside their own businesses by local photographer Maggie
Wilder of Aunt Maggs Photography. The collection highlights the leadership, creativity, and
resilience of women whose businesses help define the downtown experience.

Downtown is home to more than 70 women-owned businesses across retail, hospitality,
personal services, and professional sectors.

Spring Into Shelter Careers- An introduction to the different roles and jobs within the shelter.

Pawsitive Pathways is a dynamic program designed for teens ages 13-15 who are passionate about animals and eager to grow as young leaders. Through engaging hands-on experiences, participants deepen their understanding of animal welfare while taking on real shelter tasks. Teens will get to flex their leadership skills by serving as ambassadors to mentor and assist younger participants in the Animal Allies Program. This unique opportunity will help them develop communication, teamwork and problem-solving skills while making a meaningful impact. Pawsitive Pathways aims to help your young teens build confidence, responsibility, and a strong foundation for future volunteer or career opportunities in animal care and advocacy!
